본고는 최근에 정리된 고구려사 관련 연구논저 목록에 음악과 무용 방면의 연구성과가 제대로 반영되지 않아 이를 보완하려는 측면에서 지금까지 연구성과를 보충하였고, 남한과 북한의 연구경향을 파악하여 앞으로 요청되는 과제를 모색해 보고자 마련하였다. 경우 약 37년 동안 9편의 연구물과 3명의 연구자가 참여한 데 비하면 남한의 연구는 56년 연구물이 48편에 이르며, 연구자는 40명이므로 여러 활발했다고 볼 수 있다. 그러나 벽화에 나타난 악기와 연주형태 및 무용을 총체적으로 정리한 점으로 봤을 때는 소량이긴 하나 알찬 점이 지금까지의 연구 경향을 바탕으로 앞으로의 제시하면, 첫째는 고구려 고분벽화에 있어서 음악학계에서 주로 관심가진 문제는 주악상의 악기가 무엇인가? 또는 그 악기의 명칭은 무엇이 바람직한가에 집중되었다고 1차적으로 악기 판독이 가장 기초적이고 중요한 사안이지만, 그려진 연주의 의미를 찾는 연구도 병행되어야 한다고 생각한다. 따라서 주악상은 고구려인의 종교와...
이 글은 ‘삼현육각(三絃六角)’이란 용어에서 ‘삼현(三絃)’의 의미를 찾고자 시작한 글이다. 삼현이란 용어는 고대 신라 때부터 사용되었고, 현재에도 사용하고 있는 장수(長壽) 낱말이다. 때 현악기 3종인 거문고·가야금·비파를 지칭하는 의미에서 비롯되었지만 오늘날 의미와 다르게 삼현영산·삼현장단·삼현타령·삼현삼죽·삼현굿거리·삼현풍류 등의 용어를 있다. 이런 경우 삼현은 과연 어떤 지녔는가에 대한 의문을 해결하기 위해 글을 시도하였다. 먼저 삼현이 현악기를 사례를 검토한 결과 모두 다섯 가지 의미가 있음을 밝혔다. 첫째는 신라시대 3종의 현악기인 총칭하는 의미다. 이것은 이미 학계에 널리 알려진 사실이다. 둘째, 중국 중 세 줄로 구성된 ‘삼현금(三絃琴)’을 지칭하며, 이것의 준말로 ‘삼현’이라 했다. 셋째, 금(琴)의 번째 현을 의미로도 사용되었다. 넷째, 일본의 3종 즉 비파(琵琶)와 쟁(箏) 그리고 화금(和琴)을 의미로 다섯째, 유구국(流球國)이나 일본에서 사용하는...
이 글은 현재 대취타에 사용하고 있는 악기 중에 ‘나각(螺角)’이란 악기의 명칭이 과연 바람직한 용어인지에 문제를 제기하여 올바른 용어 정립을 위해 시도한 글이다. 해결하기 문헌에 기록된 ‘나(螺)’와 ‘나각(螺角)’의 사례를 각각 검토하였다. 그 결과 ‘나(螺)’라는 명칭은 고려시대부터 사용하기 시작하였고, 조선 500년을 거쳐 근대 1902년까지 그림과 함께 기재된 주된 명칭임을 확인하였다. 특히 1493년에 편찬된 『악학궤범』이나 후기에 『종묘의궤』와 잔치 관련 여러 의궤 속에 ‘나(螺)’였다. 그러므로 ‘나(螺)’란 1123년부터 근대까지 약 800년간 사용된 용어임을 한편, 중기에 ‘각(角)’을 교대로 분 데서 비롯된 용어다. 즉 ‘나각교취(螺角交吹)’에서 명칭이다. 그런데 18세기 정조 때부터는 기존의 명칭인 생성된 혼재되기 시작했다. 같은 문헌 내에서 두 용어를 혼용한 사례는 100년 정도 지속되었다. 그러나 이것이 일제 강점기를 통과하면서 고착화된 사실을...
