Abstract Background Chagas disease (CD) continues to be a neglected infectious with one of the largest burdens globally. Despite modest cure rates in adult chronic patients and its safety profile, benznidazole (BNZ) is still drug choice. Its current recommended dose based on nonrandomized studies, efficacy optimal BNZ have been scarcely analyzed clinical trials. Methods/design MULTIBENZ phase II, randomized, superiority, double-blind, multicenter international trial. A total 240 Trypanosoma...
Background The aim of our study is to describe the FDG-PET/CT findings in patients with tuberculosis and correlate them patient’s prognosis. Methods We retrospectively collected data from tuberculosis, who had an performed prior treatment initiation 2010 2015. Results Forty-seven out 504 active diagnosis (9.33%) underwent FDG-PET/CT. reasons for performing were: characterization a pulmonary nodule (24; 51.1%), fever unknown origin (12; 25.5%), lymph node enlargement (5; 10.6%) others (6;...
Endemic mycoses are systemic fungal infections. Histoplasmosis is endemic in all temperate areas of the world; coccidioidomycosis and paracoccidioidomycosis only present American continent. These pathogens not Spain, but last years there has been an increase reported cases due to migration temporary movements. We obtained from Spanish hospitals records clinical demographic data hospitalized between 1997 2014. There were 286 histoplasmosis, 94 Coccidioidomycosis 25 paracoccidioidomycosis....
HIV infection has been associated with reduced bone mineral density (BMD). Antiretroviral therapy (ART) a deleterious effect on BMD, but its fragility is not clear. The objective of this study to analyze the microarchitecture, and tissue quality in patients receiving long-term tenofovir- or abacavir-based ART.We conducted cross-sectional undergoing tenofovir abacavir ART for more than 5 years. We measured BMD using dual X-ray absorptiometry ,bone michroarchitecture trabecular score (TBS),...
Mass vaccination campaigns reduced COVID-19 incidence and severity. Here, we evaluated the immune responses developed in SARS-CoV-2-uninfected patients with predominantly antibody-deficiencies (PAD) after three mRNA-1273 vaccine doses. PAD were classified based on their immunodeficiency: unclassified primary antibody-deficiency (unPAD, n = 9), common variable immunodeficiency (CVID, 12), combined (CID, 1), thymoma (TID, 1). unPAD healthy controls (HCs, 10) similar vaccine-induced humoral two...
Dientamoeba fragilis is an intestinal protozoan, usually considered nonpathogenic. However, in the last years, there has been attempt to clarify its possible pathogenic role. We aim evaluate clinical and epidemiological characteristics of D. fragilis-infected patients. Adults with detection feces who attended Vall d'Hebron University Hospital (Barcelona, Spain) were evaluated retrospectively from April 2009 March 2014. classified patients asymptomatic, symptomatic without other causes except...
In a previous study performed by our group, Strongyloides stercoralis infection in patients with Chagas disease was associated higher proportion of Trypanosoma cruzi DNA detection peripheral blood. The aim the to confirm this association larger cohort patients.Cross-sectional all diagnosed from 2005 2015 during blood donation at Catalan Blood Bank. Demographic data and T. RT-PCR were collected. S. diagnosis based on serological test. Two hundred two donors included. positive 72 (35.6%)...
There is little published data on benznidazole dosing, or levels in cerebrospinal fluid. In this report, we describe the clinical course of an immunosuppressed patient with Chagas central nervous system involvement. He was treated successfully larger doses than are recommended, order to reach therapeutically effective concentrations brain.

We describe a case of patient who experienced recurrent COVID-19 pneumonia over period 123 days. Neither remdesivir nor convalescent plasma were temporally associated with viral clearance or increased neutralization capacity. Antibody levels remained low until day 151 and cellular immunity overtime no evolution.
