Abstract Objectives/Hypothesis: To evaluate the patterns of failure, survival, and functional outcomes for patients treated with transoral robotic surgery (TORS) compare these results those from a cohort concurrent chemoradiation (CRT). Study Design: Prospective non‐randomized case control study. Methods: Between April 2007 2009, 30 head neck squamous cell carcinoma were primary TORS adjuvant therapy as indicated on an institutional review board–approved protocol. Patients evaluated before...

Distinguishing benign inverted papilloma (IP) tumors from those that have undergone malignant transformation to squamous cell carcinoma (IP-SCC) is important but challenging do preoperatively. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can help differentiate these 2 entities, no established method exists automatically synthesize all potentially relevant MRI image features distinguish IP and IP-SCC. We explored a deep learning approach, using 3-dimensional convolutional neural networks (CNNs), address...

Background Preclinical data suggest that sunitinib enhances the efficacy of radiotherapy. We tested combination and hypofractionated image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT) in a cohort patients with historically incurable distant metastases. Methods Twenty five oligometastases, defined as 1–5 sites active disease on whole body imaging, were enrolled phase II trial from 2/08 to 9/10. The most common tumor types treated head neck, liver, lung, kidney prostate cancers. Patients recommended dose 37.5...

Background Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) is commonly characterized by type‐2 inflammation. It established that group‐2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s) are a subset of immune important in orchestrating mucosal response. IL‐25 an epithelial‐derived cytokine critical activator ILC2s. Recent evidence demonstrates specialized taster epithelial cells, such as solitary chemosensory (SCCs), may be producers IL‐25. To elucidate the relationship between SCCs and ILC2s CRSwNP, we...

Sinonasal inverted papilloma (IP) is the most common benign tumor found in nasal cavity and has potential for locally destructive effects malignant transformation [1-3]. Birkenbeuel et al. demonstrate that 565 patients with squamous cell carcinoma of their IP, 5-year overall survival rate was 62% a mean recurrence time 24.3 months [4]. Therefore, follow-up crucial detection preemptive revision resection prior to transformation. While postulated, it not yet been examined how socioeconomic...

The organochlorine pesticides chlordane and heptachlor were evaluated for their genotoxicity epigenetic membrane effects. Both compounds non-genotoxic in the ARL-HGPRT mutagenesis assay which genotoxic carcinogens 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene benzo[a]pyrene induced significant increases mutant incidence. both markedly inhibited intercellular communication between cultured liver cells, a property demonstrated by many tumor promoting agents, whereas did not produce this effect.

The cell cycle specificity of chemical mutagenesis was studied by use two synchronization techniques, one a nontoxic technique involving serum deprivation and the other double thymidine block, to obtain rat liver epithelial cells in different phases be exposed mutagens. For both methyl methanesulfonate N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine, there mutagenesis, with most sensitive phase being period DNA synthesis.

Abstract BACKGROUND: Concurrent inhibition of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and cyclooxygenase‐2 (COX‐2) is an active well tolerated regimen in recurrent head neck cancer (HNC). In the current phase 1 trial, authors sought to determine maximum dose (MTD) efficacy concurrent erlotinib celecoxib as a radiosensitizing regimen. METHODS: Fourteen patients with previously irradiated HNC no distant metastases who required reirradiation were eligible. Treatment consisted daily 150 mg twice...

Objectives/Hypothesis Currently, due to the rarity of pathology, there are limited data surrounding outcomes pediatric skull base surgery. Traditionally, surgeons have proceeded with caution when electing endonasal endoscopic transsellar/transplanum approaches in patients poor sphenoid pneumatization. In this study, we review surgery based on pneumatization patterns. Study Design Retrospective chart review. Methods A all cases (age < 18 years) craniopharyngioma managed via an approach at...

Design Case series with chart review. Setting Tertiary medical center. Methods A retrospective study was performed for undergoing from 2005 to 2010. Demographics; survival; endotracheal intubation, MV, ICU, stay; incidence ventilator‐associated pneumonia (VAP) were assessed. Tracheotomy considered if it by day 7 MV late...

Objectives/Hypothesis Inverted papillomas (IPs) are benign tumors of the sinonasal tract with a malignant transformation potential. Predicting propensity IPs and corresponding risk factors has long been challenge. Solitary chemosensory cells (SCCs) are rare epithelial enriched in nasal polyps and the primary source of interleukin-25 (IL-25), an innate cytokine eliciting T-helper 2 (Th2) immune response. Although it is proposed that SCCs stimulated by antigens released upper airway pathogens, exogenous triggers human remain elusive. We studied patients with noninvasive fungal rhinosinusitis to determine whether extracts Aspergillus fumigatus Alternaria alternata stimulate SCC proliferation as early...

Airway submucosal gland serous cells are sites of expression the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) and important for fluid secretion in conducting airways. To elucidate how neuropeptides regulate cells, we tested if human nasal turbinate secrete bicarbonate (HCO 3 − ), mucus polymerisation antimicrobial peptide function, during stimulation with cAMP-elevating vasoactive intestinal (VIP) this requires CFTR. Serous stimulated VIP exhibited a ∼15–20% cAMP-dependent...
