Abstract Detecting gastric intestinal metaplasia (GIM) with white light endoscopy (WLE) remains a challenge and virtual chromoendoscopy methods have been shown to increase accuracy. We aimed externally validate the Endoscopic Grading of Gastric Intestinal Metaplasia (EGGIM) using blue imaging (BLI). First, reliability BLI EGGIM score was evaluated through assessment 90 images divided into three sets 30. A multicenter cross-sectional study conducted at two Italian centers involving 102...
We aimed to report the impact of pandemic lockdown period on treatment and prognosis superficial gastrointestinal neoplastic lesions.A survey was completed by 11 centers from four continents regarding postponements during early pandemic, same in 2019.In 2020, 55 % scheduled procedures were deferred, which times higher than 2019; main reasons directly related COVID-19. In countries that highly affected, this proportion rose 76 vs. 26 those where there less impact. Despite absolute reduction,...
The incidence of local recurrence following gastric endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) remains a clinical concern. We aimed to evaluate the impact narrow safety margin (< 1 mm) on rate.
Objective An increasing use of endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) has been reported in Western countries, although some differences training schemes and outcomes have described. We aimed to report the model, implementation, ESD Portugal. Methods All endoscopists trained at our center from country ( n = 9) were invited a survey regarding: (a) period; (b) (c) implementation each respective center. Results completed survey. Learning was centered on human assistance high-volume during median...
An 81-year-old woman underwent an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy because of anemia. Two lesions were detected: a 30-mm type 0-Ip located in the lesser curvature antrum, and 25-mm 0-Is involving hemisphere pylorus proximal duodenal bulb. Biopsy specimens revealed hyperplastic polyp adenocarcinoma, respectively. Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) was proposed ([Video 1]).
A 53-year-old woman underwent an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy because of dyspepsia. 15-mm, type 0-IIa lesion was identified in the lesser curvature distal corpus. After a biopsy taken, moderate hemorrhage occurred and two metal clips were applied ([Fig. 1 a]). The histopathological result showed high grade dysplasia so patient referred to our department undergo endoscopic resection.
A 51-year-old man was referred to our institution for removal of a large semipedunculated polyp (0-Isp) involving the appendiceal orifice ([Fig. 1]). Previous biopsies showed tubulovillous adenoma (TVA) with high grade dysplasia (HGD). Endoscopic resection under general anesthesia in operating room proposed and agreed by patient. 30-mm 0-Isp lesion extending into appendix (> 75 % orifice) found, narrowband imaging showing regular mucosal pattern without areas suggestive deep invasion....
Aims Synchronous gastric neoplastic lesions have been reported in up to 10.9 % of patients with cancer and the most adequate strategy (simultaneous resection vs deferment) is unclear since safety outcomes two strategies rarely evaluated. We aimed analyse prevalence synchronous lesions, possible risk factors for its diagnosis, simultaneous resection.
Aims The adoption of endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) among Western countries remains slow due in part to the lack a standardized training program. We aimed analyze and outcomes ESD performed by Portuguese endoscopists with previous our centre implementation at their own centres.
Aims Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is a well-established procedure for the treatment of early gastric cancer in Eastern countries. However, this technique has not been yet widely implemented western centres due to its higher risk complications and worse outcomes compared expert-Eastern centres. We aimed assess safety, oncological ESD, factors local recurrence.
