Hydrothermal vents release reduced compounds and small organic carbon into the surrounding seawater, providing essential substrates for microbial growth bioenergy transformations. Despite wide distribution of marine benthic group E archaea (referred to as Hydrothermarchaeota) in hydrothermal environment, little is known about their genomic repertoires biogeochemical significance. Here, we studied four highly complete (>80%) metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs) from a black smoker chimney...

Hadal biosphere represents the deepest part of ocean with water depth >6,000 m. Accumulating evidence suggests existence unique microbial communities dominated by heterotrophic processes in this environment. However, investigations diversity and their metabolic potentials are limited because technical constraints for sample collection. Here, we provide a detailed metagenomic analysis three seawater samples at depths 5,000-6,000 m below sea level (mbsl) surface sediment 4,435-6,578 mbsl Yap...

A novel spiro-tetracyclic diterpene, spirograterpene (1), was isolated from the deep-sea-derived fungus Penicillium granulatum MCCC 3A00475, together with two biosynthetically related cyclopianes, conidiogenone I (2) and C (3). The relative configuration of 1 elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analyses, absolute structure established modified Mosher's method. Compound is second example a diterpene featuring 5/5/5/5 spirocyclic carbon skeleton. It showed modest antiallergic activity.

Vibrio owensii is a potential bacterial pathogen in marine aquaculture system. In this study, five lytic phages specific against strain B8D, closely related to V. owensii, were isolated from seawater of an abalone farm. The characterized with respect morphology, genome size, growth phenotype, as well thermal, and pH stability. All found belong the family Siphoviridae long noncontractile tails terminal fibers. Restriction analysis indicated that dsDNA viruses molecular weights ranging c. 30...

A novel anthraquinone, 2-(dimethoxymethyl)-1-hydroxyanthracene-9,10-dione (1), together with nine known compounds (2-10), were isolated from the fermentation of Aspergillus versicolor derived deep sea sediment. Their structures established through spectroscopic methods. Compound 1 exhibited strong inhibitory activities against MRSA ATCC 43300 and CGMCC 1.12409 (with MIC values 3.9 7.8 μg/mL respectively) moderate tested strains Vibrio ranging 15.6 to 62.5 μg/mL). was subjected molecular...

The archaeal phylum Woesearchaeota, within the DPANN superphylum, includes phylogenetically diverse microorganisms that inhabit various environments. Their biology is poorly understood due to lack of cultured isolates. Here, we analyze datasets Woesearchaeota 16S rRNA gene sequences and metagenome-assembled genomes infer global distribution patterns, ecological preferences metabolic capabilities. Phylogenomic analyses indicate can be classified into ten subgroups, termed A-J. While a...

Three novel compounds, 4-methyl-candidusin A (1), aspetritone (2) and B (3), were obtained from the culture of a coral-derived fungus Aspergillus tritici SP2-8-1, together with fifteen known compounds (4-18). Their structures, including absolute configurations, assigned based on NMR, MS, time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) ECD calculations. Compounds 2 5 exhibited better activities against methicillin-resistant strains S. aureus (MRSA) ATCC 43300 MRSA CGMCC 1.12409 than...
