Abstract Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is the most common acquired primary hemostatic disorder in dogs. less commonly affects cats but an important cause of mortality and treatment‐associated morbidity both species. remains a diagnosis exclusion for which diagnostic guidelines are lacking. Primary, or non‐associative, ITP refers to autoimmune platelet destruction. Secondary, associative, arises response underlying disease trigger. However, evidence comorbidities serve as triggers has not...

GM1 gangliosidosis is a fatal neurodegenerative disease that affects individuals of all ages. Favorable outcomes using adeno-associated viral (AAV) gene therapy in mice and cats have prompted consideration human clinical trials, yet there remains paucity objective biomarkers to track status. We developed panel blood, urine, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), electrodiagnostics, 7 T MRI, magnetic resonance spectroscopy cats—either untreated or AAV treated for more than 5 years—and compared them...

A controlled, blind study was conducted to define the initial inflammatory response and lung damage associated with death of precardiac stages Dirofilaria immitis in cats as compared adult heartworm infections normal cats. Three groups six each were used: UU: uninfected untreated controls; PreS I: infected 100 D. L3 by subcutaneous injection treated topically selamectin 32 2 days pre-infection once monthly for 8 months); IU: left untreated. Peripheral blood, serum, bronchial lavage, thoracic...

Glanzmann thrombasthenia (GT) is an inherited, intrinsic platelet defect characterized by a quantitative or qualitative change in the glycoprotein complex IIb-IIIa (integrin α IIb β 3 ). The subunits are encoded separate genes and both must be expressed for stable to form on surface; therefore, either gene can result GT.

Abstract A 9‐month‐old male G reat D ane had progressive generalized nodular dermatopathy for several months. There were > 100 raised, alopecic, firm, painful nodules throughout the skin. Aspirates from lesions yielded moderate numbers of irregularly round or polygonal to spindle‐shaped cells with mild anisocytosis and few inflammatory cells, cytologic interpretation was proliferation mesenchymal histiocytic cells. On histopathologic examination, composed densely packed sheets...

A 17-year-old Peruvian Paso mare was evaluated for bilateral epistaxis that had been present at least 3 years. The mild anemia, platelet count within the reference interval, unremarkable coagulation times, and a negative Coggins test. On endoscopic examination, structural abnormalities were not observed in nasal cavities, pharynx, larynx, trachea, or either guttural pouch, but petechiation noted mucosa. Additional tests revealed prolonged cutaneous bleeding time, normal concentration of von...

Abstract An EDTA ‐anticoagulated blood sample collected from a 1.5‐year‐old, intact male, English Bulldog was submitted for CBC . The data and smear evaluation revealed borderline high hematocrit (54%, reference interval 37–55%), inappropriate rubricytosis, moderate leukopenia due to both mature neutropenia lymphopenia, mild thrombocytopenia. Numerous leukocytes showed evidence of karyolysis, pyknosis, karyorhexis, apoptotic bodies were frequent in the background. Many neutrophils had...

Acidemia in sick or injured horses is often due to lactic acid accumulation. Alterations platelet function and hemostasis are among numerous deleterious effects caused by decreased physiologic pH.We aimed evaluate the effect of hyperlactatemia resultant acidemia on aggregation equine whole blood using impedance aggregometry.Platelet was measured Multiplate analyzer from 34 healthy at baseline after vitro addition adjust pH. A controlled, blind research study was conducted to define the innate response of lungs in specific pathogen free (SPF) cats intravenous (n=10) or subcutaneous (n=4) administration homogenate adult Dirofilaria immitis from donor dogs compared with lung control (n=6). There no difference that received heartworm IV for 18 days treated doxycycline 1 month given untreated dogs. Cats did not develop clinical signs, and radiographic changes were noted. Understanding SARS-CoV-2 epidemiology in companion animals is critical for evaluating their role viral transmission and potential as sentinels human infections. This large-scale serosurvey analyzed serum samples from 706 cats 2,396 dogs collected across the USA 2023 using a surrogate virus neutralization test (sVNT) to detect antibodies. Overall, 5.7% of 4.7% tested positive antibodies, with younger (under 12 months) showing significantly lower seropositivity rates (p = 0.0048)....
