Roses have high cultural and economic importance as ornamental plants in the perfume industry. We report rose whole-genome sequencing assembly resequencing of major genotypes that contributed to domestication. generated a homozygous genotype from heterozygous diploid modern progenitor, Rosa chinensis 'Old Blush'. Using single-molecule real-time meta-assembly approach, we obtained one most comprehensive plant genomes date. Diversity analyses highlighted mosaic origin 'La France', first...
The scent of roses (Rosa x hybrida) is composed hundreds volatile molecules. Monoterpenes represent up to 70% percent the content in some cultivars, such as Papa Meilland rose. Monoterpene biosynthesis plants relies on plastid-localized terpene synthases. Combining transcriptomic and genetic approaches, we show that Nudix hydrolase RhNUDX1, localized cytoplasm, part a pathway for free monoterpene alcohols contribute fragrance roses. RhNUDX1 protein shows geranyl diphosphate...
Abstract Roses are significant botanical species with both ornamental and economic value, displaying diverse floral traits, particularly an extensive array of petal colors. The red pigmentation rose petals is predominantly attributed to anthocyanin accumulation. However, the underlying regulatory mechanism biosynthesis in roses remains elusive. This study presents a novel light-responsive module governing petals, which involves transcription factors RhHY5, RhMYB114a, RhMYB3b. Under light...
In Chinese rose species and in many modern varieties, two methylated phenolic derivatives, 3,5‐dimethoxytoluene 1,3,5‐trimethoxybenzene, are major scent components. We show that cell‐free extracts of petals catalyse the synthesis 1,3,5‐trimethoxybenzene by methylation precursor molecules. An expressed sequence tag approach was used to identify four highly similar O ‐methyltransferase sequences specifically anthers. Thin layer chromatography analysis showed activities these enzymes with...
Single‐pass sequences were obtained from the 5′‐ends of a total 1794 rose petal cDNA clones. Cluster analysis identified 242 groups and 635 singletons indicating that database represents 877 genes. Putative functions could be assigned to 1151 transcripts. Expression indicated transcripts several genes accumulated specifically in petals stamens. The library expressed sequence tag described here represent valuable resource for future research aimed at improving economically important...
Abstract Orcinol O-methyltransferase (OOMT) 1 and 2 catalyze the last two steps of biosynthetic pathway leading to phenolic methyl ether 3,5-dimethoxytoluene (DMT), major scent compound many rose (Rosa x hybrida) varieties. Modern roses are descended from both European Chinese species, latter being producers ethers but not former. Here we investigated why production occurs in some all In DMT-producing varieties, OOMTs were shown be localized specifically petal, predominanty adaxial epidermal...
Cultivated for centuries, the varieties of rose have been selected based on a number flower traits. Understanding genetic and molecular basis that contributes to these traits will impact future improvements this economically important ornamental plant. In study, we used scanning electron microscopy sections meristems flowers establish precise morphological calendar from early development stages senescing flowers. Global gene expression was investigated floral meristem initiation up...
A technical procedure is described to follow the in vitro release of ;male germ unit' and sperm cells from three tricellular pollen species (Brassica, Zea, Triticum). The condition cell was controlled using light microscopy. In addition, for first time, viability has been checked by fluorochromatic reaction test. These preliminary results indicate that this appears be a prerequisite successful preparation purified viable cells.
Floral scent is one of the most important characters in horticultural plants. Roses (Rosa spp.) have been cultivated for their since antiquity. However, probably by selecting cultivars with long vase life, breeders lost fragrant character many modern roses, especially ones bred cut flower market. The genetic inheritance has remained elusive so far. In-depth knowledge this quantitative trait thus very much needed to breed more commercial cultivars. Furthermore, rose hybrids harbor a composite...
The expression of heat-shock proteins (HSPs) in isolated maize (Zea mays L.) microspores has been investigated using high-resolution two-dimensional electrophoresis coupled to immunodetection and fluorography vivo synthesized proteins. To this end, homogeneous viable populations have purified sufficient amounts for molecular analysis from plants grown controlled conditions. Appropriate conditions thermal stress application defined. revealed that display a classical response characterized by...
Rose is one of the most economically important ornamental crops worldwide. Rosa sp. can become a model for woody ornamentals. Its genome size relatively small (560 Mb), its genetic history with ploidy events well documented, and rose has short life plant. Furthermore, different tools are available, including transcriptomic tools, maps transformation protocols. represents an original studying some traits that cannot be addressed in other plant species such as Arabidopsis. Some these traits,...
The rose is the queen of flowers and widely used as a garden plant for cut flower market. Roses are also production essential oil cosmetic perfume industries. A lot botanical roses scented use their volatiles to attract pollinators. Fragrances in very diverse scent has always been an important character selection process. Breeders have recently tried introduce new fragrances, instance reminiscent fruit or spice odors. But despite efforts, some on market not fragrant, especially ones selected...
