Some previous studies have suggested that home pesticide exposure before birth and during a child's early years may increase the risk of childhood leukemia. To further investigate this, we pooled individual level data from 12 case-control in Childhood Leukemia International Consortium. Exposure were harmonized into compatible formats. Pooled analyses undertaken using multivariable unconditional logistic regression. The odds ratio (ORs) for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) associated with...

The associations between childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and several proxies of early stimulation the immune system, that is, day-care center attendance, birth order, maternally reported common infections in infancy, breastfeeding, were investigated by using data from 11 case-control studies participating Childhood Leukemia International Consortium (enrollment period: 1980–2010). sample included 7,399 ALL cases 11,181 controls aged 2–14 years. collected questionnaires...

Maternal occupational pesticide exposure during pregnancy and/or paternal around conception have been suggested to increase risk of leukemia in the offspring. With a view providing insight this area we pooled individual level data from 13 case‐control studies participating Childhood Leukemia International Consortium (CLIC). Occupational were harmonized compatible format. Pooled analyses undertaken using unconditional logistic regression. Using mothers 8,236 cases, and 14,850 controls,...

This study investigated the role of factors considered related to early stimulation immune system in etiology childhood acute leukemia. The national registry-based case-control ESCALE was carried out France 2003–2004. Population controls were frequency matched cases on age and gender. Data obtained from structured telephone questionnaires administered mothers. Odds ratios estimated using unconditional regression models adjusted for potential confounders. Included 634 lymphoblastic leukemia...

Objectives: Investigating the relationship between occupational exposure to pesticides and risk of lymphoid neoplasms (LNs) in men. Methods: A hospital-based case-control study was conducted six centres France 2000 2004. The cases were incident with a diagnosis LN aged 18–75 years. During same period, controls age sex as recruited hospital, mainly orthopaedic rheumatological departments. Exposures evaluated through specific interviews case-by-case expert reviews. Male breast cancer is a rare disease of largely unknown aetiology. In addition to genetic and hormone-related risk factors, large number environmental chemicals are suspected playing role in cancer. The identification occupations or occupational exposures associated with an increased incidence men may help identify mammary carcinogens the environment.Occupational factors for male were investigated multi-centre case-control study conducted eight European countries which included 104 cases...

Positive associations have been reported between the measures of accelerated fetal growth and risk childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). We investigated this association by pooling individual-level data from 12 case-control studies participating in Childhood Leukemia International Consortium. Two growth-weight-for-gestational-age proportion optimal birth weight (POBW)-were analysed. Study-specific odds ratios (ORs) 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated using multivariable...

Exceptionally high incidence rates of thyroid cancer have been reported for Melanesian women in New Caledonia (South Pacific). To investigate the occurrence that country and to clarify role goiter hormonal factors disease women, a countrywide population-based case-control study was conducted 1993-1999. The included 293 cases, identified through pathology registers whose verified histologically, 354 population controls. Thyroid associated with goiter, age at menarche, irregular menstruation,...

Abstract Paediatric B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (BCP-ALL) is the most common cancer of childhood, yet little known about BCP-ALL predisposition. In this study, in 2,187 cases European ancestry and 5,543 controls, we discover replicate a locus indexed by rs77728904 at 9p21.3 associated with susceptibility ( P combined =3.32 × 10 −15 , OR=1.72) independent from rs3731217, previously reported ALL-associated variant region. In an Italian population of 275 unrelated men affected by adult-onset sporadic progressive cerebellar ataxia, the authors found six patients carrying FMR1 gene premutation. Age at onset (range, 53 to 69 years) and clinical-neuropathologic findings were consistent with fragile-X tremor ataxia syndrome (FXTAS), although was not as common previously described. FXTAS accounted for 4.2% cases diagnosed >50 years, suggesting that it is a frequent genetic cause late-onset ataxia.
