Unnecessary antibiotic use (AU) contributes to increased rates of Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI). The impact restriction on hospital-onset CDI (HO-CDI) has not been assessed in a large group US acute care hospitals (ACHs).We examined cross-sectional and temporal associations between hospital-level AU HO-CDI using data from 549 ACHs. was defined as discharge with secondary International Classification Diseases, Ninth Revision, Clinical Modification code for (008.45), treatment...

Abstract In healthcare settings, Acinetobacter spp. bacteria commonly demonstrate antimicrobial resistance, making them a major treatment challenge. Nearly half of organisms from clinical cultures in the United States are nonsusceptible to carbapenem drugs. During 2012–2015, we conducted laboratory- and population-based surveillance selected metropolitan areas Colorado, Georgia, Maryland, Minnesota, New Mexico, York, Oregon, Tennessee determine incidence carbapenem-nonsusceptible A....

There is growing interest in the usefulness of workplace as a site for promotion healthful food choices. The authors therefore analyzed data U.S. adults ( N = 1,918) who reported working outside home and eating lunch. majority (84.0%) workers had break room. About one half (54.0%) purchased lunch ≥ 2 times/week, with higher percentages males, Blacks, younger (age 18-34 years) versus older 55 years or older), obese normal-weight persons. most important choice value was convenience (34.3%),...

Stress-induced stomatal closure is mediated via an intricate hormone network in cells. Abstract Background As the US population ages, number of hip and knee arthroplasties is expected to increase. Because surgical site infections (SSIs) following these procedures contribute substantial morbidity, mortality, costs, we projected SSIs occur from 2020 through 2030. Methods We used a stochastic Poisson process project primary revision SSIs.
