Sixty nosocomial infections caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii resistant to aminoglycosides, cephalosporins, quinolones, penicillins, monobactams, imipenem were treated with colistin (one patient had two that are included as different cases). The pneumonia (33% of patients), urinary tract infection (20%), primary bloodstream (15%), central nervous system (8%), peritonitis (7%), catheter-related otitis media (2%). A good outcome occurred for 35 patients (58%), three...
Background: The preservation of bone volume immediately after tooth removal might be necessary to optimize the success implant placement in terms esthetics and function. objectives this randomized clinical trial were two‐fold: 1) compare dimensional changes following extraction with plus ridge using corticocancellous porcine a collagen membrane; 2) analyze histologic histomorphometric aspects extraction‐alone sites grafted sites. Methods: Forty subjects who required enrolled study. Using...
In the night of February 20, 2020, first case novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) was confirmed in Lombardy Region, Italy. week that followed, experienced a very rapid increase number cases. We analyzed 5,830 laboratory-confirmed cases to provide epidemiological characterization COVID-19 outbreak Western Country. Epidemiological data were collected through standardized interviews and their close contacts. demographic backgrounds, dates symptom onset, clinical features, respiratory tract...
In the night of February 20, 2020, first epidemic novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outside Asia was uncovered by identification its patient in Lombardy region, Italy. following weeks, experienced a sudden increase number ascertained infections and strict measures were imposed to contain spread. We analyzed official records cases occurred characterize epidemiology SARS-CoV-2 during early phase outbreak. A line list laboratory-confirmed set up later retrospectively consolidated, using...
Background: Implants placed immediately after tooth extraction offer several advantages, but many authors have reported problems in filling the residual gap between implant and socket walls. Barrier grafting techniques been tested yield varying results, so it has suggested that timing of placement may be important for success. The aim this study was to analyze bone healing coronal remodeling around 35 implants, 20 removal 15 6 8 weeks extraction. Methods: All implants were submerged within...
Abstract Introduction As a consequence of extraction, the height buccal wall tends to decrease and results in disappearance bundle bone. To modify bone remodelling after various ridge preservation techniques have been proposed. The present research was drawn up with following considerations mind: evaluate compare changes hard soft tissues post‐extraction sockets which received procedure, had healed naturally. Materials methods Each patient randomly allocated test or control group using...
Abstract Objectives: The aim of the present study was to investigate in a randomized‐controlled clinical trial performance rotary instruments compared with piezoelectric device during maxillary sinus floor elevation. Materials and methods: Thirteen patients who required bilateral augmentation for implant–prosthetic rehabilitation were included this study. A within‐patient control carried out. osteotomy access performed on one side maxilla using piezosurgery (test sites) other conventional...
Background: Implants placed immediately after tooth extraction have shown high percentages of clinical success. Few studies in the scientific literature observed horizontal bone remodeling buccallingual direction immediate placement implants. The aim this study was to analyze healing and coronal around 15 implants removal without use guided regeneration (GBR) techniques. Methods: Ten patients received a total single‐rooted teeth. All were within alveolar confines, limiting, most cases, small...
Some of the original surgical protocols for implant surgery have been reassessed to satisfy patient's continuously increasing expectation shorter rehabilitation time, improved esthetics, and increased comfort. The aim this study was evaluate 12-month clinical success 18 single-tooth implants inserted immediately after tooth extraction restored same day with non-functional loading.A total patients (12 women six men), 22 60 years old, were enrolled in study. Eighteen single fresh sockets...
Background: The preservation of hard and soft tissue volume, partially lost after tooth removal, can potentially reduce the need for more demanding augmentation procedures used in implant‐supported rehabilitation. objective this research study is to investigate effect filling with xenogeneic material postextractive sockets two surgical (flapless versus flapped). Methods: In prospective randomized clinical survey, types socket were performed on groups patients: control, treated via...
Background: The alveolar ridge undergoes reabsorption and atrophy subsequent to tooth removal thus exhibits a wide range of dimensional changes. Preservation the crest after extraction is essential enhance surgical site before implant fixture placement. aim this randomized clinical study investigate compare need for additional augmentation procedures at insertion, as well success rate marginal bone loss implants placed in grafted sites versus those naturally healed sites. Methods: Forty...
Abstract Background The insertion torque value has been extensively used as an indicator for implant primary stability, which is considered a determining parameter the implants success. Purpose goal of present randomized clinical trial was to evaluate and compare outcome placed with high (between 50 Ncm 100 Ncm) regular (within in healed ridges. Materials Methods Partially edentulous patients, missing one or more mandibular maxillary teeth, having adequate amount bone, requiring placement,...
Acute dental abscess is a frequent and sometimes underestimated disease of the oral cavity. The acute usually occurs secondary to caries, trauma, or failed endodontic treatment. After intact pulp chamber opened, colonization root canals takes place with variable set anaerobic bacteria, which colonize walls necrotic forming specialized mixed biofilm. Asymptomatic necrosis common. However, formation when these bacteria their toxic products breach into periapical tissues through apical foramen...
Abstract Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the histological histomorphometric features two different procedures carried out in extraction socket grafting; namely, flapped flapless technique. Materials methods Patients considered eligible for were randomized receive tooth ridge preservation with porcine bone collagen membrane, a full thickness mucoperiosteal flap primary soft tissue closure (control group), or, procedure secondary (test group). After 3 months...
The present double-blind randomized clinical trial aimed to compare the efficacy in reducing dentin hypersensitivity of a dentifrice formulation containing nano-hydroxyapatite with fluoride and placebo.105 subjects were recruited participate study. A computer-generated random table blocking one three study treatments was used order have 35 per group: 1) 15% toothpaste, fluoride-free; 2) toothpaste; 3) placebo. Groups 1, 2, 3 instructed brush their teeth for 2 minutes twice day provided...
Sustained coronavirus disease (COVID-19) transmission is ongoing in Italy, with 7,375 reported cases and 366 deaths by 8 March 2020. We provide a model-based evaluation of patient records from Lombardy, predicting the impact an uncontrolled epidemic on healthcare system. It has potential to cause more than 250,039 (95% credible interval (CrI): 147,717–459,890) within 3 weeks, including 37,194 CrI: 22,250–67,632) patients requiring intensive care. Aggressive containment strategies are required.
To evaluate and compare clinical histological changes after ridge preservation procedures with those of spontaneous healing.Ninety patients were enrolled in the present randomized controlled trial underwent single-tooth extraction premolar/molar areas. Thirty sites grafted collagenated cortico-cancellous (coll), 30 cortical (cort) porcine bone natural healing. Primary (vertical horizontal 3 months) secondary outcomes (histomorphometric evaluated at implant placement. The vertical sockets...
Abstract During the spring of 2020, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) epidemic caused an unprecedented demand for intensive-care resources in Lombardy region Italy. Using data on 43,538 hospitalized patients admitted between February 21 and July 12, we evaluated variations intensive care unit (ICU) admissions mortality over course 3 periods: early phase pandemic (February 21–March 13), period highest pressure health-care system (March 14–April 25, when numbers COVID-19 exceeded prepandemic...
