From the beginning of 2007 until end 2011, 146 cases lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) were notified to Barcelona Public Health Agency. Some 49% them diagnosed and reported in mainly men who have sex with men. Almost half them, 32 cases, between July September. This cluster represents largest since 2004. article presents ongoing outbreak LGV Barcelona.
In contrast with HIV-1, information about drug resistance in HIV-2 is scarce and mainly derived from small series of patients failing antiretroviral therapy. The spectrum changes the reverse transcriptase (RT), protease (PR) integrase (INT) genes was examined individuals enrolled Spanish register. From a total 236 HIV-2-infected registered Spain 1989 to June 2010, 53 PR, 44 RT 8 INT sequences were obtained. Low plasma viraemia precluded collection this most remaining cases. No major...
HIV-2 is a neglected virus despite estimates of 1-2 million people being infected worldwide. The naturally resistant to some antiretrovirals used treat HIV-1 and therapeutic options are limited for patients with HIV-2.In this retrospective observational study, we analysed all HIV-2-infected individuals treated integrase strand transfer inhibitors (INSTIs) recorded in the Spanish cohort. Demographics, treatment modalities, laboratory values, quantitative RNA CD4 counts as well drug resistance...
Lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) is a systemic sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by Chlamydia trachomatis (L serovars L1, L2 or L3). Since 2003, several outbreaks of rectal LGV affecting men who have sex with (MSM) occurred in western Europe [1]. The first case Spain was confirmed Barcelona 2005 [2], but no further cases been detected this city since until September 2007. We briefly summarise the characteristics diagnosed at outpatient STI clinic between 2007 and April 2008.

Background:
Identification of recent HIV infections provides a description the current pattern transmission and, consequently, can help to design better preventive interventions. Our study shows first implementation in Spain Serologic Testing Algorithm for Recent Seroconversion (STARHS) strategy. We assess viability introducing STARHS our setting and describe frequency epidemiological characteristics (RIs).
Methods:
Between 2003 2005, HIV-positive blood samples drawn...
The advent of new antiretrovirals has expanded the therapeutic options for multiple drug-resistant HIV-1 infection. role recycled nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs) in this scenario remains uncertain.Observational study 122 consecutive patients with prior triple-class failure and multidrug-resistant HIV infection who started a salvage regimen at least three darunavir, etravirine, raltegravir maraviroc. Virological, immunological clinical outcomes were compared according to...
The objective of this study was to determine the immune responses candidate viral triggers multiple sclerosis in patients and healthy siblings raised same family household. Virus antigen-specific IgG Epstein—Barr virus-derived gene products as well human herpersvirus-6, cytomegalovirus, measles virus were evaluated 25 compared with 49 full-siblings. latent virus-encoded nuclear antigen-1 (EBNA1) selectively increased individuals their unaffected siblings. We conclude that elevated towards...
Two kidney transplant recipients from a single donor became infected with HTLV-1 (human T-lymphotropic virus type 1) in Spain. One developed myelopathy 8 months following surgery despite early prescription of antiretroviral therapy. The allograft was removed the second recipient at month due to rejection and immunosuppressors discontinued. To date, 3 years later, this patient remains but asymptomatic. infection recognized retrospectively donor, native Spaniard who had sex partners endemic...
This study describes the incidence rate of reported lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) in men who have sex with (MSM) Barcelona from 2007 to 2012. Epidemiological, clinical and sexual behaviour characteristics LGV cases are described. Seroadaptive behaviours as a transmission risk factor were assessed by telephone questionnaire during Data handled on strictly confidential basis. annual ratios MSM compared 2007. Differences statistically analysed Poisson test. The aged 15-69 years ranged 32·1/105...
Limited data are available on resistance to etravirine, rilpivirine, darunavir and tipranavir in patients infected with HIV-1 non-B subtypes, which natural polymorphisms at certain positions could influence the barrier and/or pathways drug resistance. FASTA format sequences from reverse transcriptase protease genes recorded within Spanish Drug Resistance database (ResRIS) were examined. From 8272 genotypes derived 5930 different included ResRIS, 5276 had complete treatment information....
Although only 8%-10% of persons infected with human T-cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1) may develop virus-associated diseases lifelong, misdiagnosis asymptomatic carriers frequently leads to late diagnoses.A nationwide HTLV-1 register was created in Spain 1989. A total 351 had been reported by the end 2017. We examined all new diagnoses during last decade and compared their clinical presentation.A 247 individuals infection since year 2008. The incidence has remained stable 20-25 yearly....
HIV-2 infection is characterized by low plasma viraemia and slower progression to AIDS in comparison with HIV-1 infection. However, antiretroviral therapy patients less effective often fails provide optimal CD4 recovery. We examined viral tropism persons enrolled the Spanish cohort. Viral was estimated based on V3 sequences obtained from RNA and/or proviral DNA.From a total of 279 individuals recorded national register, 58 belonging 42 were evaluated. X4 viruses recognized 14 (33%). Patients...
Since 2000, substantial increases in syphilis have been reported metropolitan areas of Western countries, with noted among men who sex (MSM). Clinical manifestations might be influenced by concomitant VIH infection and previous episodes syphilis. The objectives this study were to describe the epidemiological clinical characteristics cases diagnosed Barcelona. Retrospective early referral STI Unit Barcelona from January 2003 December 2013. Revision medical records structured collection data....

Since 2003 LGV outbreaks have been reported in different European cities men who sex patient with high-risk sexual behaviours. In the majority of cases most common clinical presentation was a rectal syndrome described as an acute proctitis. Barcelona during 2012 proctitis, but revealed increase extrarectal location.
Objective
To analyse that diagnosed reference STI Unit (UITS) Drassanes Barcelona.
Methods
Retrospective descriptive study. Review epidemiological...
