A set of core concepts ("big ideas") integral to the discipline physiology are important for students understand and demonstrate their capacity apply. We found poor alignment learning outcomes in programs with majors (or equivalent) from 17 Australian universities 15 developed by a team United States. The objective this project was reach Australia-wide consensus on physiology, which can be embedded curricula across universities. four-phase Delphi method employed, starting assembling Task...

Abstract Radiotherapy is one of the most effective modalities for treatment neoplastic diseases. Radiation damage to a large extent caused by overproduction reactive oxygen species. To improve therapeutic index, identifying substances prevention or postirradiation intestinal and bone marrow injury should be prompted. This study was designed evaluate protective effects cimetidine on in rats exposed γ‐irradiation (5 Gy) exploring B‐cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl2)/Bcl2 associated X (bax) pathway as...

Background Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) represent one of the major sequelae obesity. On other hand, relationship between bone and obesity remains unclear. An increasing number biological epidemiological studies suggest presence a link atherosclerosis osteoporosis, however, precise molecular pathways underlying this close association remain poorly understood. The present work thus aimed to study Matrix Metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9), as proposed osteoporosis in high fat diet fed rats. Methods...

Introduction: Making the processes underpinning students’ approaches to given tasks visible is challenging. The aim of this study was assess viability microanalysis a digitally simulated clinical reasoning assessment. Methods: Eighty-five second-year optometry students were invited participate in recall interviews. Through thematic analysis, we constructed codebook and through microanalysis, process maps created. Results: had four themes 27 codes. 53 synthesised demonstrate decision making....

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a major health concern in many countries including Egypt. The alteration DNA methylation that was observed HCC patients suggests possible role of methyltransferases (DNMTs) the disease pathogenesis addition to potential as biomarker. Aim: To study change DNMTs expression chronic HCV infected non- invasive biomarker for diagnosis hepatocellular carcinoma. Methods: 26 with HCC, 45 liver cirrhosis, 20 and apparently healthy individuals control group...

Epidemiology and pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) osteoporosis are strikingly overlapping. This study presents matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9), as a simple molecular link more consistently associated with the pathophysiology both CVD risk factors. 40 adult female rats were randomly distributed into 4 groups [control sham-operated, untreated osteoporosis, carvedilol-treated alendronate-treated osteoporosis]. After 8 weeks, blood samples collected to estimate Lipid profile...

Menopause increases the risk of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). We investigated effect incretin and/ or exercise on hepatic fat accumulation in ovariectomized rats. Rats were divided into five groups: Group 1: Control rats, 2: Ovariectomized 3: rats + Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitor (DPPi) (30 mg/kg/day, orally), 4: swimming, and 5: swimming DPPi. After 6 weeks, Alanine aminotransferase (ALT), glucose, insulin, HOMA IR (Homeostatic Model Assessment for Insulin Resistance), FFA...

While animal models for schizophrenia, ranging from pharmacological to lesions and genetic models, are available, they usually mimic only the positive symptoms of this disorder. Identifying a feasible model chronic schizophrenia would be valuable studying possible underlying mechanism investigate emerging treatments. Our hypothesis starts observation that combining ketamine with isolation could result in long-lasting neuro-psychological deficits schizophrenia-like features; thus, it probably...

Background: Natural Killer (NK) cells have crucial roles in immune responses against malignant transformation including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The NKG2D receptor has a critical role the NK recognition of target cells. Aim: We assessed expression as diagnostic biomarker for HCC detection and progression Egyptian patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV)-related HCC. Methods: classified 81 into three groups: chronic (21), cirrhotic (30) patients, 36 individuals enrolled to control group....

An Australian Task Force of physiology educators identified physiological adaptation as a core concept physiology. It was subsequently unpacked into four themes and nine subthemes. These were rated, by the Force, Essential or Important Moderately Difficult for students to learn. The subthemes can inform design learning outcomes, assessments, teaching activities that have commonality consistency across curricula.

Virtual reality (VR) has revolutionized medical education, yet its specific effcacy in teaching physiology remains underexplored. Conveying the complexities of physiological responses to hypoxia through traditional methods poses logistical challenges, potentially hindering students’ deep understanding.
