Cross-linking between lignin and polysaccharide in plant cell-wall determines physical, chemical, biological features of lignocellulosic biomass. Since Erdmann's first report 1866, numerous studies have suggested the presence a bond hemicelluloses lignin; however, no clear evidence for this interaction has been reported. We describe direct proof covalent bonding polysaccharides lignin. Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy was used to observe long-range correlations through an α-ether...
Abstract: Protein phosphatase C was purified 140‐fold from bovine brain with 8% yield using histone H1 phosphorylated by the catalytic subunit of cyclic AMP‐dependent protein kinase (cyclic AMP‐kinase). Brain considered to consist 10 and 90%, respectively, subunits phosphatases 1 2A on basis effects ATP inhibitor‐2. dephosphorylated microtubule‐associated 2 (MAP2), τ factor, tubulin a multifunctional Ca 2+ /calmodulin‐dependent (calmodulin‐kinase) AMP‐kinase. The properties dephosphorylation...
Synchrotron light sources, arguably among the most powerful tools of modern scientific discovery, are presently undergoing a major transformation to provide orders magnitude higher brightness and transverse coherence enabling demanding experiments. In these experiments, overall source stability will soon be limited by achievable levels electron beam size stability, on order several microns, which is still 1–2 larger than already demonstrated position current. Until now stabilization has been...
Pyroligneous acids (PA) from hardwood, softwood, and bamboo significantly disinfected encephalomyocarditis virus (EMCV). Twenty-five kinds of phenolic derivatives in the PAs were identified quantified. The total amounts compounds PA is higher than those softwood hardwood. Phenol, 2-methoxyphenol, 2-methoxy-4-methylphenol, 2-methoxy-4-ethylphenol are most abundant examined. activities all against assessed. number hydroxyl groups affects antiviral activity, catechol its exhibit viral...
Purpose: The purpose of this work was to compare dynamic MRI (D-MRI) with CT (D-CT) for the diagnosis peripheral cholangiocarcinoma (PCC) liver. Method: Twenty patients PCC underwent both D-CT and D-MRI during early, middle, delayed phase after contrast medium administration. findings from were compared those D-CT. Results: exhibited a similar tumoral enhancement pattern, more conspicuous on D-MRI. A wedge-like area tumor observed in 9 (45%) 11 (55%) Ductal dilatation found 13 (65%)...
Single crystals of a highly conductive oxide SrMoO3 have been grown by floating-zone method under argon atmosphere with ultralow oxygen partial pressure p(O2)∼10−25atm. The obtained single reveal quite low resistivity at 300 K ρ(300K)=5.1μΩcm, which is the lowest to date in values ρ(300K) all oxides. Resistivity and specific heat data suggest that electrons behave as Fermi liquid (correlated electron), its due extremely small electron-phonon interaction SrMoO3.
To investigate the efficacy of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in assessment thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO), 51 patients with TAO were evaluated by ophthalmologic examinations and MRI at 0.5 T. Thickness extraocular muscles (EM) was measured T1-weighted image. Signal intensities EM orbital connective tissue (OCT) short inversion time recovery (STIR) image expressed as a ratio comparison to signal intensity cerebral substantia alba (SI, ratio). Significant enlargement one or more...
Marfan syndrome can cause life-threatening aortic complications. We investigated the relationship between FBN1 genotype and severe aortopathy (aortic root replacement, type A dissections, related death). We evaluated 248 patients with pathogenic or likely variants. The variants were classified as haploinsufficient (HI, n=93) dominant-negative (DN, n=155) based on their location predicted amino acid alterations, we examined effects of events death). The cumulative event-free probability was...
Abstract The hip abductor muscles are considered important for gait and biomechanics of the joint; however, their specific function has not been defined precisely. intensity magnetic resonance imaging signals in skeletal muscle reported to increase immediately after exercise. Making use this phenomenon, we evaluated muscles. Magnetic was performed isometric exercise three positions (20° abduction, neutral, 20° adduction). abduction force measured with a dynamometer, electromyographic...
The thi80 mutant of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (Nishimura, H., Kawasaki, Y., Nosaka, K., Kaneko, and Iwashima, A. (1991) J. Bacteriol. 173, 2716-2719) shows markedly reduced activity thiamin pyrophosphokinase (TPK; EC 2.7.6.2). We have isolated a DNA fragment carrying the THI80 gene from yeast genomic library by its ability to complement constitutive synthesis thiamin-repressible acid phosphatase, encoded PHO3 gene, cells. On other hand, locus was found be located 3.3 centimorgans proximal...
The mechanisms of resistance Pseudomonas aeruginosa to benzalkonium chloride (BC) were studied. effluence cell components was observed in susceptible P. by electron microscopy, but resistant seemed be undamaged. No marked changes surface potential between Escherichia coli NIHJC-2 and a spheroplast strain found. contents phospholipids (PL) fatty neutral lipids (FNL) the walls higher than those aeruginosa. amounts BC adsorbed PL FNL BC-resistant lower for BC-susceptible Fifteen species...
Residual inhibition is a transient suppression of tinnitus after auditory stimulation has stopped. We used positron emission tomography to study brain regions underlying residual in three patients with cochlear implants and six normal hearing controls. Regional cerebral blood flow was measured compared under two conditions: during the tinnitus. The right anterior middle superior temporal gyri (Brodmann areas 21 38) were activated inhibition, while cerebellum perception patients. No...
The mechanisms underlying deafferentation pain are not well understood. Motor cortex stimulation (MCS) is useful in the treatment of this kind chronic pain, but detailed its effects unknown.Six patients with intractable left hand were included study. All righthanded and had a subdural electrode placed over right precentral gyrus. was associated brainstem injury one patient, cervical spine thalamic hemorrhage brachial plexus avulsion three patients. Treatment MCS reduced pain; visual analog...
Abstract Enzymatic catalysis is an ecofriendly strategy for the production of high‐value low‐molecular‐weight aromatic compounds from lignin. Although well‐definable monomers have been obtained synthetic lignin‐model dimers, enzymatic‐selective synthesis platform natural lignin has not accomplished. In this study, we successfully achieved highly specific with a phenylpropane structure directly using cascade reaction β‐O‐4‐cleaving bacterial enzymes in one pot. Guaiacylhydroxylpropanone (GHP)...
Excessive exposure of skin to UV-A (315–400 nm) and UV-B (280–315 radiation causes premature aging, inflammation, cancers. The harmful effects solar can be minimized using UV-absorbing agents. Most available organic agents are synthetic compounds. UV absorbers were developed herein from a reproducible biomass resource, lignin. Lignin is heterogeneous aromatic polymer with major absorption maximum in the UV-C (100–280 region but lacks absorption. To produce lignin, conjugated structures...
Abstract Objectives Coronary microvascular functional and structural obstructions (CMVO) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) are a major cause of poor clinical outcomes in patients with acute syndrome. This study aimed to noninvasively diagnose the presence CMVO using non-contrast multiparametric cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) myocardial infarction (AMI) who underwent PCI. Methods We retrospectively enrolled consecutive AMI PCI subsequent acute-phase CMR at our hospital. The...
