Adenovirus (ADV) infections are associated with significant morbidity and mortality after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). The virus is endemic in the general pediatric population frequently causes severe disease immunocompromised patients, especially children. We report our experience cidofovir (CDV) for treatment of ADV infection 57 HSCT median age 8 years (range 0.5-26).Peripheral blood was prospectively screened weekly on all patients by quantitative real-time PCR first...

Thrombocytopenia in patients with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) is associated shortened survival and an increased risk of evolution to acute myeloid leukemia (AML). In this study, the authors evaluated efficacy romiplostim who had thrombocytopenia low-risk/intermediate-1-risk MDS.Patients MDS (N = 250) were randomized 2:1 receive or placebo weekly for 58 weeks. The primary endpoint- number clinically significant bleeding events (CSBEs) per patient-had a hazard ratio romiplostim:placebo 0.83...

Thrombopoietin receptor agonists (TPOra) are the only treatments for immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) which evidence of efficacy and safety from randomized, placebo-controlled trials is available. We sought to determine long-term tolerability TPOra romiplostim, with a particular focus on thrombosis, bleeding, bone marrow (BM) reticulin, neoplasms/haematological malignancies fatal events.

Summary. Natural killer (NK) cell alloreactivity resulting from immunoglobulin‐like receptor (KIR) ligand incompatibility improves outcomes in patients receiving extensively T‐cell‐depleted bone marrow (BM) grafts. Patients with KIR are at risk for donor T‐cell alloreactivity. We investigated the relative significance of NK‐cell and 105 paediatric who received a minimally human leucocyte antigen‐non‐identical BM transplantation. Donor did not improve patient outcome [engraftment,...

Seasonal declines in breeding performance are widespread wild animals, resulting from temporal changes environmental conditions or individual variation. might drive selection for early breeding, with implications other stages of the annual cycle. Alternatively, on phenology nonbreeding could constrain timing season and lead to seasonal reproductive performance. We studied 25 taxa migratory shorebirds (including five subspecies) at 16 arctic sites Russia, Alaska, Canada. investigated four...

The main obstacles to successful haploidentical haematopoietic stem cell transplantation from a mismatched family member donor are delayed immune reconstitution, vulnerability infections and severe graft-versus-host disease (GvHD). We designed reduced-intensity conditioning regimen that excluded total body irradiation anti-thymocyte globulin in order expedite reconstitution after CD3-depleted transplant. This protocol was used treat 22 paediatric patients with refractory haematological...

The Arctic is experiencing rapidly warming conditions, increasing predator abundance, and diminishing population cycles of keystone species such as lemmings. However, it still not known how many animals will respond to a changing climate with altered trophic interactions. Many Arctic shorebird populations are declining, and quantifying adult survival the effects of anthropogenic factors is a crucial step toward better understanding population dynamics. We used recently developed, spatially explicit Cormack–Jolly–Seber model in Bayesian framework to obtain broad-scale estimates true annual rates for 6 species shorebirds at 9 breeding sites across North American 2010–2014. tested environmental ecological variables, study site, nest fate, sex on each framework,...

Hemorrhagic cystitis (HC) is a well-documented adverse event experienced by patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. When severe, HC causes significant morbidity, leads to renal complications, prolongs hospitalization, increases health-care costs, and occasionally contributes death. We retrospectively studied the medical records of 245 children an initial allogeneic bone marrow transplantation for malignant disease at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital between 1992...

Summary Prospective magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), angiography (MRA), neuropsychological testing and neurological examinations were performed to determine the long‐term effect of successful haematopoietic stem cell transplantation on status nine children with sickle disease. A scoring system for severity brain parenchymal vascular lesions was developed applied. Neurological neuropsychometric tests stable, but MRI MRA studies not. Hemorrhagic cystitis (HC) results in significant morbidity among hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) recipients. Several potential causes for HC have been postulated, including viral infection, but definitive evidence is lacking, particularly pediatric HSCT patients.Ninety recipients were prospectively tested on a weekly basis adenovirus (ADV) and BK virus (BKV) by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction blood urine samples. Results correlated with the occurrence of grade...

Rabbit antithymocyte globulin (rATG; Thymoglobulin) is currently used to prevent or treat graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) during hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). The dose and schedule of rATG as part the preparative regimen for unrelated donor (URD) bone marrow (BMT) have not been optimized in pediatric patients. In addition, for most species, little is known about stage(s) at which bottlenecks occur, such as breeding vs. nonbreeding...
