Ticks are ectoparasites spread worldwide and well known as vectors of many viruses great importance to human animal health. However, the viral diversity in ticks is still poorly understood, particularly South America. Here we characterized present Rhipicephalus microplus parasitizing cattle southern region Brazil using metagenomics. Our study revealed presence that had not been previously described region, including lihan tick virus (Phenuiviridae family) wuhan 2 (Chuviridae family), expands...
Chapparvoviruses are a highly divergent group of parvoviruses (family Parvoviridae ) that have recently been identified via metagenomic sampling animal faeces. Here, we report the sequences six novel chapparvoviruses through both bat tissues and in silico screening published vertebrate genome assemblies. The share several distinctive genomic features together as robustly supported monophyletic clade phylogenetic trees. Our data indicate broad host range vertebrates global distribution.
Abstract Background Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) emerged in the Americas 2013 and has caused approximately 2.1 million cases >600 deaths. A retrospective investigation was undertaken to describe clinical, epidemiological, viral genomic features associated with deaths by CHIKV Ceará state, northeast Brazil. Methods Sera, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), tissue samples from 100 fatal suspected arbovirus infection were tested for CHIKV, dengue (DENV), Zika (ZIKV). Clinical, death reports obtained...
Bats (Order: Chiroptera) harbor a high diversity of emerging pathogens presumably because their ability to fly and social behavior favor the maintenance, evolution, dissemination these pathogens. Until 2012, there was only one report presence Hantavirus in bats. Historically, it thought that viruses were harbored primarily by rodent insectivore small mammals. Recently, new species hantaviruses have been identified bats from Africa Asia continents expanding potential reservoirs range viruses....
Mayaro virus (MAYV) is a neglected arthropod-borne (arbovirus) antigenically clustered into the Semliki Forest complex group of Alphavirus genus ( Togaviridae family), maintained in an unclear zoonotic cycle involving mosquitoes from Haemagogus as main vector. The genome composed positive single-stranded RNA 11.5 kb length, which contains two genes that encode four nonstructural (nsP1 to nsP4) and five structural (C, E3, E2, 6K, E1) proteins.
Mosquito-borne viruses have a worldwide impact, especially in tropical climates. Chikungunya virus has been present mostly developing countries, causing millions of infections, while Mayaro virus, close relative, limited to the Caribbean and regions Latin America.
Chikungunya (CHIKV) virus is an important mosquito-borne causing outbreaks of acute febrile illness with arthropathy. The detection specific antibodies against CHIKV used for diagnosis after the viremic phase disease. However, a major challenge serologic and other alphaviruses cross-reactivity to common antigens among these viruses. In present study, we have developed enzyme-linked immunosorbend assay using recombinant envelope protein 2 produced in Escherichia coli system, as capture...
Abstract Birds are the natural reservoir of viruses with zoonotic potential, as well contributing to evolution, emergence, and dissemination novel viruses. In this study, we applied a high-throughput screening approach identify diversity in 118 samples birds captured between October 2006 2010 North Northeast regions Brazil. We found nearly complete genomes species astrovirus calicivirus cloacal swabs ruddy turnstones ( Arenaria interpres ) collected Coroa do Avião islet, Pernambuco State....
According to reports by the Ministry of Health, in far western region State Santa Catarina, there have been no hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, a zoonotic disease transmitted feces infected rodents. A seroepidemiological study residents this region, was conducted, with aim determining presence infections. total 340 volunteers both genus, from towns Belmonte and Paraíso, were studied. The serum these patients collected used detect IgG antibodies against recombinant N protein Araraquara...
The Hepeviridae comprise single-stranded positive-sense RNA viruses classified into two genera, Orthohepevirus and Piscihepevirus. Orthohepeviruses have a wide host range that includes rodents, but previous studies had been restricted to rodents of the Muridae family. In this study, we applied high-throughput sequencing approach examine presence orthohepeviruses in from São Paulo State, Brazil. We also used RT-PCR determine frequency our sampled population. identified novel blood samples...
The genus Phlebovirus includes the sandfly fever viruses and tick-transmitted uukuviruses. Sandfly group have been isolated from various vertebrate species phlebotomines occasionally alternative arthropods, e.g. mosquitoes, or ceratopogonids of Culicoides. Uukuniemi serogroup ticks. Despite public health importance some genus, genomic diversity phleboviruses that could be incriminated as causative human veterinary diseases remains underestimated. Here we describe nearly complete sequences...
The persistent circulation of SARS-CoV-2 represents an ongoing global threat due to the emergence new viral variants that can sometimes evade immune system previously exposed or vaccinated individuals. We conducted a follow-up study adult individuals had received inactivated vaccine, evaluating antibody production and neutralizing activity over period 6 months. In addition, we performed mice immunization with SARS-CoV-2, evaluated response pathological outcomes against Gamma Zeta variant...
Hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome (HCPS) is an infectious disease caused by hantaviruses of the family Bunyaviridae, and transmitted aerosols excreta infected rodents. The aim present study was to determine antibody levels hantavirus in population that lives at frontier Brazil Argentina. Participated 405 individuals living municipalities Bandeirante, Santa Helena, Princesa Tunapolis, state Catarina, Brazil. IgG antibodies were analyzed sera ELISA uses a recombinant N protein Araraquara as...
The emergence of new SARS-CoV-2 variants represents a constant threat to world public health. Delta variant was identified in late 2020 India; since then, it has spread many other countries, replacing predominant lineages and raising concerns about vaccination efficiency. We evaluated the sensitivity antibodies elicited by COVID-19 vaccinated (CoronaVac ChAdOx1) convalescent individuals previously infected earlier Gamma variant. No reduction neutralizing efficacy observed when compared B...
In the Americas, hantaviruses cause severe cardiopulmonary syndrome (HCPS) with a high fatality rate. Hantavirus infection is commonly diagnosed using serologic techniques and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction. This paper presents novel plaque reduction neutralisation test (PRNT) for detecting antibodies to Brazilian hantavirus. Using PRNT, detection was enhanced by adding 0.6% of dimethyl sulfoxide into overlay culture medium infected cells. procedure facilitated clear...
INTRODUCTION: Arenavirus hemorrhagic fever is a severe emerging disease. METHODS: Considering that the levels of antibodies against arenavirus in Brazilian population are completely unknown, we have standardized an ELISA test for detecting IgG using recombinant nucleoprotein from Junin virus as antigen. This protein was obtained by inserting gene into genome Autographa californica nucleopolyhedrovirus, Bac-to-Bac baculovirus expression system. used to infect S. frugiperda cells (SF9)....
