A sensitive LC-ESI-MS/MS method was developed for the determination of 165 pesticides in 50 citrus fruit samples collected Sicily. Moreover, an evaluation levels layers (peel, albedo, and pulp) carried out. The presented acceptable trueness, precision, linearity with LOQ 5 μg/kg. results obtained showed a high frequency fungicides class all examined (>95%) highest concentrations peel (4468 µg/Kg). significant difference found between fruits analysed (p < 0.05). In particular, albedo present...
A gas chromatographic with flame ionization detector (GC-MS FID) method for the identification and quantification of fatty acids based on extraction lipids derivatisation free to form methyl esters was developed validated. The proposed evaluated a number standard FAs, Bronte pistachios samples were used that purpose demonstrate applicability method. In this regard, repeatability, mean deviation analytical procedure calculated. results obtained have demonstrated oleic acid as main component...
We examined the acrylamide content in samples of wheat bread with chia seeds added at different concentrations (2%, 5%, 7%, 10%) and cooked predefined conditions (20 min 200°C) by a validated LC-MS/M method after QuEChERS extraction. The contents were compared control samples. highest values found 5% seeds, showing mean value 156.5 ± 115.4 µg/kg, followed 10% (150.2 103.8 µg/kg). About 6% reached levels above benchmark level set EU Regulation. No significant differences between percentages...
A total of 71 loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta) stranded along the coasts Sicily (Southern Italy) were examined for non-dioxine like polychlorinated biphenyl (NDL-PCB) levels in muscle and adipose tissue by a gas chromatography-mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS) method. The results revealed 6 high-indicator congener (∑6 PCBIND ) 45% examined, with mean values 980.39 ± 2508.39 ng/g wet weight 102.53 238.58 tissue. hexachloro heptachloro PCB congeners most abundant both sample...
The fatty acid (FA) profile of wild Theba pisana, Cornu aspersum, and Eobania vermiculata land snail samples, collected in Sicily (Southern Italy), before after heat treatment at +100 °C were examined by gas chromatography with a flame ionization detector (GC-FID). results show higher content polyunsaturated acids (PUFAs) all the raw snails representing up to 48.10% total contents, followed monounsaturated (MUFAs). thermal processing samples determined an overall reduction PUFA levels...
This preliminary study aimed to detect biological and chemical contaminants in vegetables sold Sicily for human consumption, assess the spread of antimicrobial-resistant (AMR) strains these foods, characterize their antimicrobial-resistance genes. A total 29 fresh ready-to-eat samples were analyzed. Microbiological analyses performed detection Salmonella spp. enumeration Enterococci, Enterobacteriaceae, Escherichia coli. Antimicrobial resistance was assessed by Kirby-Bauer method, according...
This is the first study in which impact of a new bio-packaging on histamine formation mackerel was investigated. To monitor preservation fresh fish samples treatment with innovative polymeric film and soaking procedure liquid biomaterial adopted. Ultra HPLC diode array detection (UHPLC-DAD) analyses for monitoring were performed fresh, packaged, soaked at different time. The content threshold value up to 7 days, after this period results showed that levels affected by application...
Calonectris diomedea is a Procellariforms seabird having very representative colony in Linosa Island (Southern Italy). The adult forms of C. produce pasty oil from their proventriculus to feed chicks during the rearing period. In this work, we examined fatty acids composition stomach by gas chromatography with flame ionization detection (GC-FID). samples were collected at 20 and 70 days after hatching. Twenty different (FAs) identified. Saturated (SFA) most abundant percentage (41.6%) day...
Aflatoxin M1 (AFM1) may be present in milk as a result of the ingestion aflatoxin B1 (AFB1), which could potentially contained dairy feed due to contamination by molds such Aspergillus flavus and A. parasiticus. AFM1 is toxic molecule classified IARC “potentially carcinogenic humans” Group 1. In addition four aflatoxins (AFB1, AFB2, AFG1, AFG2), these fungi also produce other toxins Sterigmatocystin (STC), while Aflatoxicol (AFL) metabolite AFB1. The aim this study was investigate transfer...
