Diagnosing dysphagia in acute stroke patients is crucial, as this comorbidity determines morbidity and mortality; we therefore investigated the impact of flexible nasolaryngeal endoscopy (FEES) patients. The FEES investigation performed treated at a large university hospital, allocated standard procedure for all suspected dysphagia. We correlated our findings with baseline data, disability status, pneumonia, duration hospitalisation, necessity mechanical ventilation treatment on intensive...

Fabry disease (FD) is an X-linked multi-organ disorder of lysosomal metabolism with cardiac being the leading cause death. Identifying early FD-specific pathologies important in context maximum therapeutic benefit these stages. Therefore, aim this study was to investigate value quantitative T1 mapping as a potential disease-specific surrogate. 16 consecutive FD patients (9 female, 7 male; median age: 54 years, IQR 17) and control 52 20) were investigated at 1.5 Tesla. Native performed using...

Background: Cardiovascular diseases and arrhythmias are medical conditions that increase with age associated significant morbidities mortality. The aim of the present study was to investigate prevalence clinical associations in collective older adults receiving comprehensive geriatric care (CGC). Methods: Holter ECG monitoring (HECG) patients hospitalized for CGC analyzed. between presence arrhythmias, patients’ characteristics functional status regarding basic activities daily living...

We present a case of posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome with severe clinical manifestation. Apart from initial aphasia, hemiparesis, and generalized seizure, the patient had prolonged loss consciousness. Although blood pressure was normalized, status deteriorated continuously. After adding steroids to therapy, recovered rapidly, suggesting that this could have been useful therapeutic approach. Even vasogenic edema in cerebral magnetic resonance imaging disappeared shortly within 6 days.

Patients undergoing cardiac surgery often develop delirium which increases the risk of postoperative morbidity and leads to a reduced quality life. Retrospective studies show higher incidence in patients with seizures. However, these do not systematically detect subclinical seizures, so seizures after remains speculative. The objective this study is determine prevalence electrographic elective open-chamber surgery. This prospective, blinded, monocentric, observational investigated scheduled...

Background New evidence regarding stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation has been published. Implementing knowledge into clinical practice remains challenging. Aims To investigate oral anticoagulants patients documented a nationwide registry. Methods The database is an obligatory federal-state-wide hospital-based registry that covers more than 95% of all ischemic strokes, transient attacks and intracerebral hemorrhages community six million inhabitants (Hesse/Germany). Dysphagia is common in critically ill neurological patients and associated with a high mortality morbidity. Data on the usefulness of flexible endoscopic examination swallowing (FEES) intensive care unit (ICU) are lacking, raising need for evaluation.FEES was performed suspected dysphagia. In view of this, aim current study was to investigate extent which DS occur in hospitalized patients scheduled CGC and analyze associated factors. Furthermore, we aimed whether are relevant respect outcomes after CGC.For this retrospective study, all fulfilling inclusion criteria were selected by reviewing case files.
