Monosodium uric acid (MSU) crystals may accumulate in the coronary plaque. The objective was to assess whether dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) allows for detection of MSU plaque.Patients were examined with 128-slice DECT applying a cardiac electrocardiogram-gated and peripheral extremity protocol. Patients divided into 3 groups: gout (tophi >1 cm joints), hyperuricemia (>6.5 mg/dL serum acid), controls. groups matched cardiovascular risk factors. acid-positive (+) calcified plaque...

Methotrexate (MTX) is well known to affect folic acid metabolism, so MTX treatment can result in alterations of mean corpuscular volume (MCV), which may impact on red cell distribution width (RDW), as MCV levels feed into RDW calculation. We thus questioned whether and subsequently its diagnostic utility RA subjects, reported before, are influenced by ongoing therapy. assessed the disease modifying drug (DMARD) treatment, especially MTX, evaluated their influence predictive value for...

Background Excessive inflammation, hemolysis, and accumulation of labile heme play an essential role in the pathophysiology multi-organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) sepsis. Alpha1-antitrypsin (AAT), acute phase protein with binding capacity, is one modulators host responses to inflammation. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO) whole-body warming using low-temperature infrared technology (LIT) are techniques that might improve hypoxemia. Combining HBO LIT as hyperbaric combined with radiation (HBOIR) be an approach results in positive synergistic effects on oxygenation. increases blood flow could reduce HBO-induced vasoconstriction, hyperoxia compensate for increased metabolic requirements mediated...
