To describe the clinical features of dengue cases in Japan, a retrospective study was conducted on 62 laboratory-confirmed Japanese presented to Tokyo Metropolitan Komagome Hospital between 1985 and 2000. Age distribution from 18 years old (mean, 31.5 years). All were imported abroad diagnosed as fever. Clinical manifestations included fever (100%), headache (90%), skin rash (82%). Laboratory examinations revealed leukocytopenia (71%), thrombocytopenia (57%), elevated levels serum aspartate...

Abstract Background Since May 2022, the incidence of mpox cases has surged outside endemic regions. Although vaccination remains pivotal in prevention, data on LC16m8, a third-generation smallpox vaccine, are scant. We provided LC16m8 pre-exposure prophylaxis opportunities to high-risk individuals, including those with HIV, and conducted randomized controlled trial assess LC16m8’s effectiveness prevention safety. Methods Our multicenter open-label enrolled men women aged ≥18 years at high...

BackgroundWhether tenofovir nephrotoxicity is reversible after its withdrawal unknown. Furthermore, there are no data on the viral efficacy of raltegravir (RAL) plus ritonavir-boosted Darunavir (DRV/r) in patients with suppressed load. ABSTRACT A survey of HIV-1 strains circulating in the Tokyo-Kanagawa metropolitan area Japan during 2004 to 2011 ( n = 477) identified six Japanese males (patients 1 6), who harbored viruses with genome segments derived from a distinct CRF01_AE variant uniquely found among men have sex (MSM) China (designated CN.MSM.01-1). These HIV infections were diagnosed 2010 and MSM (3 75) unknown risk factors 63) differed vast majority Japan, which are overwhelmingly characterized by subtype B (239 246...

Brucellosis is the most common zoonosis worldwide, with more than 500,000 new human cases annually. Although brucellosis primarily transmitted to humans through consumption of unpasteurized dairy products contaminated Brucella species, several reports have indicated that may be from a man his female partner. It has been suggested sexual intercourse means transmission in these cases. Here, we describe an additional case probable person‐to‐person melitensis elderly couple. A previously...

Accurate diagnosis of earlier HIV infection is essential for treatment and prevention. Currently, confirmation tests in Japan are performed using Western blot (WB), but WB has several limitations including low sensitivity cross-reactivity between HIV-1 HIV-2 antibodies. To address these problems, a new testing algorithm more reliable HIV-1/2 differentiation assay required. The Bio-Rad Geenius Confirmatory Assay (Geenius) recently been approved recommended use the revised guidelines by Center...
