Multidimensional integrative data analysis of digital phenotyping is crucial for elucidating the pathologies multifactorial and heterogeneous diseases, such as dry eye (DE). This crowdsourced cross-sectional study explored a novel smartphone-based strategy to stratify visualize heterogenous DE symptoms into distinct subgroups. were collected from 3,593 participants between November 2016 September 2019. Dimension reduction via Uniform Manifold Approximation Projection stratified seven...

Abstract Various symptoms of the dry eye disease (DED) interfere with quality life and reduce work productivity. Therefore, screening, prevention, treatment DED are important. We aimed to investigate potential diagnostic ability maximum blink interval (MBI) (the length time participants could keep their eyes open) disease-specific questionnaire for DED. This cross-sectional study included 365 patients (252 113 without DED) recruited between September 2017 December 2019. Discriminant validity...

Multidisciplinary efforts to prospectively collect and analyze symptoms of hay fever are limited. We aimed identify the characteristics nasal ocular fever, using AllerSearch smartphone application. This mobile health-based prospective observational study application was conducted between February 1, 2018, May 2020. Individuals who downloaded from Japan provided comprehensive self-assessments (including 17 items related quality life [QoL]-related items) were included. The risk factors for...

Abstract Background Hay fever is a common allergic disease, with an estimated worldwide prevalence of 14.4% and variety symptoms. This study assessed the minimal clinically important difference (MCID) nasal symptom score (NSS), non‐nasal (NNSS), total symptoms (TSS) for app‐based hay‐fever monitoring. Methods MCIDs were calculated based on data from previous large‐scale, crowdsourced, cross‐sectional using AllerSearch, in‐house smartphone application. determined anchor‐based...

The purpose of this study was to compare central corneal thickness, thinnest and the point cornea between Pentacam anterior segment optical coherence tomography (ASOCT) in patients with dry eye disease (DED). This cross-sectional included 195 participants November 2015–June 2017. DED diagnosed using Asia Dry Eye Society criteria further divided into mild severe based on kerato-conjunctival vital staining. Central measured by ASOCT were compared, Pearson’s correlation coefficients estimated....

Abstract Corneal allograft survival is mediated by the variety of immunological reactions and wound healing process. Our aim was to explore effects topical administration ripasudil, a selective Rho-associated coiled-coil protein kinase inhibitor, on corneal survival. Ripasudil administered mice thrice day after allogeneic transplantation. graft survival, opacity, neovascularization, re-epithelization, immune cell infiltration, mRNA levels angiogenic pro-inflammatory factors in grafted cornea...

To investigate the effects of ex vivo-induced bone marrow myeloid-derived suppressor cells (BM-MDSCs) on allogeneic immune responses in corneal transplantation.Bone from C57BL/6J (B6) mice were cultured with IL-6 and GM-CSF for four days. The vivo induction BM-MDSCs was assessed using flow cytometry, inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) mRNA expression reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction, (NO) production stimulation. T-cell proliferation regulatory (Treg) expansion...

Using traditional patient-reported outcomes (PROs), such as paper-based questionnaires, is cumbersome in the era of web-based medical consultation and telemedicine. Electronic PROs may reduce burden on patients if implemented widely. Considering promising reports DryEyeRhythm, our in-house mHealth smartphone app for investigating dry eye disease (DED) electronic Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) should be evaluated compared to determine their equivalency.

The aim of this study was to compare patient-reported symptoms dry eye disease (DED) between the Japanese version Ocular Surface Disease Index (J-OSDI) and Dry Eye-Related Quality-of-Life Score (DEQS). A total 169 participants were enrolled September 2017 May 2018. Patients administered J-OSDI DEQS questionnaires at their first (baseline) follow-up visits evaluate DED-related symptoms. correlations score (Frequency Degree) scores evaluated using Pearson's correlation coefficient, clinical...

Background/aims This study aimed to assess the efficacy and sterility of stored platelet-rich plasma (PRP) eye-drops for corneal epithelial wound healing compared with those autologous serum (AS) eye-drops. Methods At our single institution, PRP AS were prepared using peripheral blood obtained from six healthy volunteers at 4°C. Platelet leucocyte counts transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1, epidermal (EGF), fibronectin levels assessed during storage up 4 weeks. Sterility was by culturing...

Abstract Corneal neovascularization (CNV) causes higher-order aberrations, corneal edema, ocular inflammation, and transplant rejection, thereby decreasing visual acuity. In this study, we investigated the effects of topical administration kappa opioid receptor agonist nalfurafine (TRK-820) on CNV. To induce CNV, intrastromal sutures were placed stroma BALB/c mice for 2 weeks. Nalfurafine (0.1 µg/2 μL/eye) was topically administered to cornea once or twice daily after CNV induction. The...
