The aim of this study was to understand the epidemiology, disease severity, and microbiology bronchiolitis in Italy during 2021-2022 cold season, outside lockdowns. Before COVID-19, usual season would begin November end April, peaking February. We performed a prospective observational four referral pediatric centers located different geographical areas (two north, one center south). From 1 July 2021 31 January 2022, we collected all new clinical diagnoses children younger than two years age...

Although the mechanisms underlying pathophysiology of long COVID condition are still debated, there is growing evidence that autonomic dysfunction may play a role in long-term complications or persisting symptoms observed significant proportion patients after SARS-CoV-2 infection. However, studies focused on have primarily been conducted adults, while function has not yet investigated pediatric subjects. In this study, for first time, we assessed whether with present abnormalities cardiac...

Background: Cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) is a noninvasive and nonexpensive diagnostic tool, that provides comprehensive evaluation of the pulmonary, cardiovascular, skeletal muscle systems’ integrated reactions to exercise. CPET has been extensively used in adults with Long COVID (LC), while evidence about its role children this condition scarce. Methods: Prospective, case-controlled observational study. Children LC control group healthy underwent CPET. findings were compared...

We describe 3 children with new-onset neurocognitive problems after coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), that showed, at the brain [18F]-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography, hypometabolism in left orbito-frontal region. The voxel-wise analysis confirmed a cluster of hypometabolic voxels this region peak −18/46/−4mm (179 voxels, T-Score 8.1). These findings may explain symptoms some develop COVID-19 and require further investigations

Importance Multiple SARS-CoV-2 variants have emerged over the COVID-19 pandemic. The implications for severity in children worldwide are unclear. Objective To determine whether dominant circulating of concern (VOCs) were associated with differences among hospitalized children. Design, Setting, and Participants Clinical data from adolescents (younger than 18 years) who positive obtained 9 countries (Australia, Brazil, Italy, Portugal, South Africa, Switzerland, Thailand, UK, US) during 3...

For all patients, history, clinical parameters, microbiological data, data collected. Patients stratified into three main groups ("bacterial", "viral", "atypical") according presumed...

Background. The profile of cellular immunological responses children across the spectrum COVID-19, ranging from acute SARS-CoV-2 infection to full recovery or Long COVID, has not yet been fully investigated. Methods. We examined and compared cytokines in sera cell subsets peripheral blood mononuclear cells (B regulatory T lymphocytes) collected four distinct groups children, distributed as follows: younger than 18 years age with either (n = 49); recovered COVID-19 32); persistent symptoms...

Abstract Background There is increasing evidence that chronic endotheliopathy can play a role in patients with Post‐Covid Condition (PCC, or Long Covid) by affecting peripheral vascularization. This pilot study aimed at assessing lung perfusion children Long‐COVID 99m Tc‐MAA SPECT/CT. Materials and Methods SPECT/CT was performed pathological cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET). Intravenous injections were on the supine position immediately before planar scan according to EANM guidelines...

Platelet activation and secretion markers were by flow cytometry using MoAbs directed against P-selectin, CD63, PAC-1 in quiescent stimulated 10-µM adenosine diphosphate 25-µM protease receptor 1-activating peptide. Circulating of patients had significantly increased expression the marker P-selectin (P = 0.019).
