The relationship between depression and monoaminergic systems has been hypothesized for many years. In this study, we have investigated the possible antidepressant-like effect of scopoletin, a coumarin from Polygala sabulosa in tail suspension test forced swimming test. Moreover, ability scopoletin to reverse depression-like behavior induced by immobility stress mice was evaluated. Scopoletin reduced time (10-100mg/kg, p.o.), but not Fluoxetine (positive control) decreased tests (20mg/kg,...
Plants of the genus Polygala have been shown to possess protective effects against neuronal death and cognitive impairments in neurodegenerative disorders related excitotoxicity. Moreover, previous reports from our group neuroprotective plant paniculata methylmercury (MeHg)-induced neurotoxicity. In this work, we examined potential three compounds (7-prenyloxy-6-methoxycoumarin, quercetin, 1,5-dihidroxi-2,3-dimethoxy xanthone) species MeHg- mercuric chloride (HgCl2)-induced disruption...
Complement receptor of immunoglobulin superfamily (CRIg) is expressed on liver macrophages and directly binds complement component C3b or Gram-positive bacteria to mediate phagocytosis. CRIg plays important roles in several immune-mediated diseases, but it not clear how its pathogen recognition phagocytic functions maintain homeostasis prevent disease. We previously associated cytolysin-positive Enterococcus faecalis with severity alcohol-related Here, we demonstrate that reduced tissues...
Crude extracts and fractions of five species Polygala - P. campestris, cyparissias, paniculata, pulchella sabulosa were investigated for their in vitro antifungal activity against opportunistic Candida species, Cryptococcus gattii Sporothrix schenckii with bioautographic microdilution assays. In the assays, major active fungi tested. minimal concentration inhibitory (MIC) assay, hexane extract paniculata EtOAc fraction showed best activity, MIC values 60 30 µg/mL, respectively, C....
This study investigated the role of glutamatergic system on antinociception caused by Polygala sabulosa hydroalcoholic extract (HE). The systems mediated substance P, capsaicin, interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta) and tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) were also investigated. P. HE given orally produced a significant inhibition glutamate-induced paw licking [ID(50) = 530.3 (416.7-674.8) mg/kg 79 +/- 6% at 1000 mg/kg]. plant derivatives alpha-spinasterol, scopoletin styryl-2-pyrones (compound...
Cytolysin-positive
Natural products have long been used worldwide as therapeutic agents, but it is only recently, in response to the new challenges posed by global population aging, that interest research into potentially natural has reemerged. In this context, coumarins, chemical compounds found plants known anti-inflammatory activity, are promising candidates for development of drugs. study we test effect scopoletin, a coumarin several plant species, on carrageenan-induced inflammation mouse model pleurisy....
The influence of common tea preparation procedures (temperature, infusion time, consumption time interval and bag/loose-leaf) the type water used, on total phenolic content (TPC), radical scavenging activity α-glucosidase inhibitory were assessed. Higher TPC antioxidant obtained when using lower mineralized waters. Tea bags also evidenced higher than loose-leaf samples. Under same conditions (90 ºC five minutes time) green contains almost twice quantity polyphenols free ability black tea. In...
Bioactivity of fractions and compounds obtained from Polygala sabulosa against Trypanosoma cruzi epimastigote, blood trypomastigote amastigote forms were evaluated in vitro. Dichloromethane ethyl acetate showed a strong trypanocidal activity on epimastigotes (IC50 < 10.4 µg/mL). Chromatographic analysis by TLC these confirmed the presence previously described (dihydrostyryl-2-pyrones, styryl-2-pyrones 6-methoxy-7-prenyloxycoumarin). The dichloromethane fraction was fractioned silica gel...
Abstract Static headspace/SPME volatiles from flowers and roots of the two Polygala species were analyzed by GC/MS. Methyl salicylate (89.1% 97.8%) was found as main volatile constituent in both P. paniculata cyparissias, respectively. However, bornyl acetate (26.0% 19.2%) 1,8-cineol (13.0% 7.2%) compounds headspace/SPME, Key Word Index: cyparissias Polygalaceaeheadspace
Context: Polygala sabulosa, popularly known as “timutu-pinheirinho,” has been used in Brazilian folk medicine for the treatment of bowel and kidney disorders an expectorant. Objective: Evaluate anti-inflammatory effects crude extract (CE), acetonic fraction (Ac), main compound, 7-prenyloxi-6-methoxycoumarin (PC) on a mouse model carrageenan-induced pleurisy. Materials Methods: A pleurisy was to investigate P. sabulosa CE, Ac PC leukocyte migration, exudate formation, activities...
The region of the sub-basin Marombas River is based on economic agroforestry activities. These activities use agrochemicals that can contaminate surface and groundwater cause diseases in humans animals. present study aimed to detect presence waters at 4 different points. water samples were collected every two months over a 1-year period. concentrations carbamates, herbicides, fungicides organophosphates analyzed. chromatographic analysis revealed fungicide Azoxystrobin (0.65 μg L-1) sample...
Accumulating evidence indicates that the gut microbiota is intricately involved in initiation and progression of human diseases, forming a multidirectional regulatory axis centered on intestinal microbiota. This article illustrates challenges exploring role inflammatory digestive such as metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) bowel (IBD), summarizes existing microbiome-focused treatment strategies (probiotics, prebiotics, symbiotics, fecal transplantation,...
