Rationale: The role of viruses in pneumonia adults and the impact viral infection on mortality have not been elucidated. Previous studies significant limitations that they relied predominantly upper respiratory specimens. Objectives: To investigate adult patients with requiring intensive care unit (ICU) admission. Methods: A retrospective analysis a prospective cohort was conducted 28-bed medical ICU. Patients severe community-acquired (CAP) or healthcare-associated (HCAP) were included...

Background. The optimal duration of antibiotic treatment for hematogenous vertebral osteomyelitis (HVO) should be based on the patient's risk recurrence, but it is not well established. Methods. A retrospective review was conducted to evaluate in patients with HVO at low and high recurrence. Patients least 1 independent baseline factor determined by multivariable analysis, were considered as those no risk. Results. total 314 microbiologically diagnosed evaluable In methicillin-resistant...

ABSTRACT Practice guidelines recommend at least 14 days of antibiotic therapy for uncomplicated Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia (SAB). However, these recommendations have not been formally evaluated in clinical studies. To evaluate the duration SAB, we analyzed data from our prospective cohort patients with SAB. A observational study was performed SAB a tertiary-care hospital Korea between August 2008 and September 2010. All adult were prospectively enrolled observed over 12-week period....

Persistent Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia (SAB) that fails to respond appropriate antibiotic therapy is associated with poor outcomes. Comprehensive prospective studies on risk factors and outcomes of persistent are limited. We investigated encompassing clinical, pharmacokinetic, microbiologic, genotypic characteristics using a case-control study nested in cohort patients SAB at tertiary-care hospital from August 2008 through September 2010. compared the clinical characteristics,...

We describe the genetic and microbiological characteristics of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bloodstream isolates with agr dysfunction from a tertiary-care hospital in Korea. Of these, ST5-SCCmec type II-agr group II MRSA isolates, which are known to be prevalent hospital-acquired infections Korea, were most abundant, because clonal spread specific agr-defective lineage.
