A one-step simple synthesis of silver colloid nanoparticles with controllable sizes is presented. In this synthesis, reduction [Ag(NH3)2]+ complex cation by four saccharides was performed. Four were used: two monosaccharides (glucose and galactose) disaccharides (maltose lactose). The syntheses performed at various ammonia concentrations (0.005−0.20 mol L-1) pH conditions (11.5−13.0) produced a wide range particle (25−450 nm) narrow size distributions, especially the lowest concentrations....
In this first systematic study, we describe the influence of various surfactants and polymers on aggregation stability antibacterial activity silver nanoparticles (NPs) prepared by a modified Tollens process. The surfactant/polymer stabilizing effect was monitored using newly established method based titration aqueous dispersion NPs solution poly(diallyldimethylammonium) chloride (PDDA). process evaluated dynamic light scattering (DLS) UV/vis spectra measurements finally confirmed TEM. Among...
The resistance of bacteria towards traditional antibiotics currently constitutes one the most important health care issues with serious negative impacts in practice. Overcoming this issue can be achieved by using antibacterial agents multimode action. Silver nano-particles (AgNPs) are well-known substances showing such Therefore, AgNPs suitable candidates for use combinations order to improve their In work, a systematic study quantifying synergistic effects different modes action and...
Photodynamic therapy is usually used against malignant and non-malignant tumors. Nowadays, due to resistance of bacterial strains, we are looking for a new antimicrobial strategy destroy bacteria with minimal invasive consequences. The worldwide increase in antibiotic among different classes gram-positive gram-negative has led the search alternative anti-microbial therapies such as PDT (aPDT). Development technology combines nontoxic compound, called photosensitizer, visible light...
We report on new magnetic bimetallic Fe–Ag nanoparticles (NPs) which exhibit significant antibacterial and antifungal activities against a variety of microorganisms including disease causing pathogens, as well prolonged action high efficiency phosphorus removal. The preparation these multifunctional hybrids, based direct reduction silver ions by commercially available zerovalent iron (nZVI) is fast, simple, feasible in large scale with controllable NP content size. microscopic observations...
Abstract When combined with nanomaterials, antibiotics show antibacterial activity against susceptible and resistant bacterial strains at significantly lower concentrations. Unfortunately, to date, no research study has examined the effect of antibiotic mode action mechanism resistance on effectiveness treatment nanomaterials. Therefore, in this review, we performed a thorough analysis critical evaluation previously published data related nanostructured materials targeted focus relationships...
Abstract The organic fraction (OF; 25.7% w/w of rosmarinic acid) Prunella vulgaris (total extract) was found to exhibit the following: scavenging activity on diphenylpicrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH), inhibition in vitro human LDL Cu(II)‐mediated oxidation, protection rat mitochondria and hepatocytes exposed either tert ‐butyl hydroperoxide, or Cu(II) Fe(III) ions. OF also showed a potential inhibit erythrocyte haemolysis it reduced production LTB 4 bovine PMNL generated by 5‐lipoxygenase...
This study assessed the effect of an 8 week consumption dried cranberry juice (DCJ) on 65 healthy young women. Basic biochemical and hematological parameters, antioxidant status, presence metabolites in urine, urine ex vivo antiadherence activity were determined throughout trial. A 400 mg amount DCJ/day had no influence any parameter tested. 1200 resulted a statistically significant decrease serum levels advanced oxidation protein products. specific protective against oxidative damage...
The fruit of Lonicera caerulea L. (blue honeysuckle; Caprifoliaceae) and its phenolic fraction were analyzed for nutrients micronutrients. was prepared from berries percolated with 0.1% H3PO4 SPE using Sepabeads SP207. sugar lipid content by HPLC GC-MS. total anthocyanins determined the pH differential absorbance method aliphatic acids capillary electrophoresis. μLC-MS/MS used determination cyanidin-3-glucoside (the predominant anthocyanin), 3,5-diglucoside, 3-rutinoside,...
We report a new procedure, exploiting "green" chemistry, resulting in biocompatible magnetically-driven nanocomposites with high antibacterial and antifungal activities against ten tested bacterial strains four Candida species. The consist of silver nanoparticles (NPs), biogenic magnetite NPs isolated from magnetotactic bacteria, an environmentally friendly polymer – chitosan. These hybrids were prepared using acidified chitosan suspension to cover by cross-linking method, followed employing...
The in vitro study of antibacterial activity silver nanoparticles (NPs), prepared via modified Tollens process, revealed high even at very low concentrations around several units mg/L. These are comparable with ionic revealing same effect. However, such NPs did not show acute cytotoxicity to mammalian cells - this occurs higher than 60 mg/L silver, while the cytotoxic level is much more lower (approx. 1 mg/L). Moreover, exhibit ecotoxicity against eukaryotic organisms as Paramecium caudatum,...
The growing interest in the composition and effects of microbiota raised question how drug pharmacokinetics could be influenced by concomitant application probiotics. aim this study was to find whether probiotic E. coli strain Nissle 1917 (EcN) influences concomitantly taken antiarrhythmic amiodarone (AMI). Live bacterial suspension EcN (or non-probiotic ATCC 25922) applied orally male Wistar rats for seven days, while a control group treated with saline solution. On eighth day,...
During the last decade, prevalence of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae in human patients has increased. Carbapenemase-producing bacteria are usually multidrug resistant. Therefore, early recognition carbapenemase producers is critical to prevent their spread. The objective this study was develop primers for single and/or multiplex PCR amplification assays simultaneous identification class A, B, and D carbapenem hydrolyzing β-lactamases then evaluate efficiency. The reference sequences...
Escherichia coli is a common commensal bacterial species of humans and animals that may become troublesome pathogen causing serious diseases. The aim this study was to characterize the quinolone resistance phenotypes genotypes in E. isolates different origin from one area Czech Republic. were obtained hospitalized patients outpatients, chicken farms, retailed turkeys, rooks wintering wastewaters. Susceptibility grown on MacConkey agar with ciprofloxacin (0.05 mg/L) 23 antimicrobial agents...
This work reports the role of iron redox pair (Fe(3+)/Fe(2+)) in formation naturally occurring silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) aquatic environment. The results showed that Fe(3+) or Fe(2+) ions mixtures Ag(+) and natural organic matter enhanced AgNPs. AgNPs depended on pH types matter. Increase AgNPs, humic acids as ligands higher compared to fulvic acids. observed were described by considering potentials pairs species possible involved reducing Dynamic light scattering transmission electron...
The ability of bacteria to develop resistance antibiotics is threatening one the pillars modern medicine. It was recently understood that can even silver nanoparticles by starting produce flagellin, a protein which induces their aggregation and deactivation. This study shows covalently bound cyanographene (GCN/Ag) kills silver-nanoparticle-resistant at concentrations 30 times lower than nanoparticles, challenge has been so far unmet. Tested also against multidrug resistant strains,...
