The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique was used to detect Mycoplasma pneumoniae. A specific DNA sequence for M. pneumoniae selected from a genomic library, and two oligonucleotides were chosen in this give an amplified fragment of 144 base pairs. We show that different strains can be detected by PCR, with other species giving negative results. Analysis biological samples (throat swabs) obtained hamsters experimentally infected showed PCR more sensitive reliable than conventional...

BACKGROUND : Transfusion‐associated bacterial contamination (TABC), probably the most frequent transfusion‐transmitted infection, may induce serious adverse events. Systematic information and documentation on determinants are lacking. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS The B acthem Study is a French matched case‐control study assessing TABC determinants. Included were cases of reported in France 2‐year period, as determined from uniform definitions. Information recipient‐, blood component‐,...

Streptococci are not an infrequent cause of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). Management by debridement, antibiotics, and implant retention (DAIR) is thought to produce a good prognosis, but little known about the real likelihood success. A retrospective, observational, multicenter, international study was performed during 2003–2012. Eligible patients had streptococcal PJI that managed with DAIR. The primary endpoint failure, defined as death related infection, relapse/persistence or...

ABSTRACT Five clinical isolates of Mycoplasma hominis from three different patients were examined for resistance to fluoroquinolones; some these probably identical. All five harbored amino acid substitutions in the quinolone resistance-determining regions both DNA gyrase (GyrA) and topoisomerase IV (ParC or ParE). Furthermore, novobiocin MIC showed a significant increase. This is first characterization fluoroquinolone-resistant mycoplasma humans.
