Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) is associated with an important production of inflammatory mediators. However, it unknown whether there a relationship between the abdominal these mediators and development renal impairment, one most prognostic parameters in spontaneous peritonitis. We studied 52 cirrhotic patients at diagnosis resolution infection, by measuring endotoxin, tumor necrosis factor (TNF), interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels plasma ascitic fluid. Thirteen (25%) developed...

The effect of bacterial colonization the bronchi on progress airflow limitation is not well known. Therefore, pattern airway inflammation in smokers and patients with stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) its relation to bronchial microbial was assessed. Eight nonsmoking 18 smoking controls as 52 COPD (28 mild, 11 moderate 13 severe) were studied. All subjects investigated by means flexible bronchoscopy including protected specimen brush bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) sampling....

To evaluate the bronchial inflammatory response and its relationship to bacterial colonization in bronchiectasis, we performed a bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) 49 patients stable clinical condition nine control subjects. BAL was processed for differential cell count, quantitative bacteriologic cultures, measurement of mediators. An increase observed percentage neutrophils (37 [0 98]) (median[range]) versus 1[0 4]%, p = 0.01), concentration elastase (90.5 [8 2,930] 34 [9 44], 0.03),...

Prognostic scales provide a useful tool to predict mortality in community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). However, the inflammatory response of host, crucial resolution and outcome, is not included prognostic scales. The aim this study was investigate whether information about initial cytokine profile markers increases accuracy 30-day mortality. We evaluated HE4 in comparison with cancer antigen 125 (CA 125) healthy individuals and patients benign malignant diseases. METHODS CA serum concentrations were determined 101 individuals, 535 pathologies (292 gynecologic diseases) 423 diseases (127 cancers). cutoffs 35 kU/L 140 pmol/L, respectively.
Background:
Lack of response to treatment in community acquired pneumonia (CAP) worsens outcome. We evaluated the systemic cytokine profile (tumour necrosis factor α, interleukin (IL)1, IL6, IL8 and IL10), C reactive protein (CRP) procalcitonin (PCT) patients with CAP who had failure.
Methods:
A prospective study was performed hospitalised CAP. Cytokines, PCT CRP measurements were obtained on day 1 after 72 h treatment. Treatment failure endpoint evaluated, separation those...

BACKGROUND MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are non-coding small RNAs, involved in post-transcriptional regulation of many target genes. METHODS Five miRNAs that have been consistently found deregulated PCa (miR-21, miR-141, miR-214, miR-375, and let-7c) were analyzed urinary pellets from 60 prostate cancer (PCa) patients 10 healthy subjects by qRT-PCR. Besides, exosomes isolated differential centrifugation for those miRNAs. RESULTS Significant upregulation miR-21, miR-375 was comparing with pellets,...

Rationale: We have previously identified six serum tumor markers (TMs) (carcinoembryonic antigen, carbohydrate antigen 15.3, squamous cell carcinoma–associated cytokeratin-19 fragment, neuron-specific enolase, and pro–gastrin-releasing peptide) related to the presence of lung cancer (LC).Objectives: To validate their individual performance in an independent cohort, explore if combined assessment (≥1 abnormal TM value) is a more accurate marker for LC presence. Methods: determined these TMs...
