ABSTRACT Osteonecrosis of the jaws (ONJ) is a significant complication antiresorptive medications, such as bisphosphonates and denosumab. Antiresorptive discontinuation to promote healing ONJ lesions remains highly controversial understudied. Here, we investigated whether alters features in mice, employing potent bisphosphonate zoledronic acid (ZA) or receptor activator NF-κB ligand (RANKL) inhibitor OPG-Fc, utilizing previously published animal models. Mice were treated with vehicle (veh),...
The control of distant metastasis in oral squamous cell carcinoma is an important determinant improved prognosis. study aimed to identify risk factors for patients with locoregionally controlled carcinoma. We identified 982 treated at our hospital between January 2008 and December 2017. After excluding initial treatment, the cavity, those receiving palliative lacking follow-up data, 941 were selected. Finally, among these patients, 887 included study. Among 36 had confirmed (4.1%), lung was...
Abstract Treatment of advanced oral squamous cell carcinoma ( OSCC ) requires the integration multimodal approaches. The aim this study was to identify predictors tumor sensitivity preoperative radiotherapy/chemotherapy for in order allow oncologists determine optimum therapeutic strategies without associated adverse effects. Here, protein expression profiles formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded FFPE tissue samples from 18 patients, termed learning cases, who received chemotherapy and/or...
Metallic compounds present in the oral and maxillofacial regions (OMRs) cause large artefacts during MR scanning. We quantitatively assessed these embedded within a phantom according to standards set by American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM).Seven metallic dental materials (each of which was 10-mm3 cube phantom) were scanned [i.e. aluminium (Al), silver alloy (Ag), type IV gold (Au), gold-palladium-silver (Au-Pd-Ag), titanium (Ti), nickel-chromium (NC) cobalt-chromium (CC)] compared...
The aim of this study is to report the differences in clinicopathological features oral tongue squamous cell carcinoma (OTSCC) and survival between adolescent young adult (AYA) patients elderly find prognosticators. medical records 101 AYA 175 control with OTSCC who underwent surgery were reviewed. Variables related prognosis their associations analyzed. 5-year overall (5y-OS) rates stage I II 94.4% 89.6% (P = .353), respectively, disease-free (5y-DFS) 82.0% 76.6%, respectively .476). 5y-OS...
We present a case of right renal tumor associated with increased accumulation F-18 FDG in the peritoneum and ileocecum on PET imaging. The FDG-PET images suggested peritoneal carcinomatosis, but histopathology open biopsy proved tuberculous peritonitis. Tuberculous peritonitis should be considered as potential interpretive pitfall mimicking carcinomatosis.
The study's objectives were to investigate the correlation between pixel values obtained from a cone-beam computed tomographic (CBCT) scanner and (CT) multidetector row CT determine whether they have linear relationship at various tube voltages currents.A phantom with different concentrations of contrast medium center CBCT was scanned imaging parameters. Computed measured using ImageJ. Regression analysis performed, as well tests Pearson coefficient.A significant same specimen observed (P <...
The presence of dental metals creates radiation dose perturbation due to scattered during therapy for the head and neck region. purpose our study was compare scatter doses resulting from various in direction buccal mucosa among a single‐field technique, three‐dimensional conformal (3D CRT), intensity‐modulated (IMRT) We used nine metal cubes with 10 mm sides, which were placed inside water phantom. measured using radiochromic films. films perpendicularly surface cubes. phantom irradiated 4...
Human papillomaviruses (HPV) may play an important role as one of the possible etiologies oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). The present study aimed to investigate association between HPV and OSCC in young Japanese patients by examining presence DNA surrogate markers tissues.Forty with whose surgical specimens were available analyzed compared 40 randomly recruited from a pool aged >40 years. was detected using polymerase chain reaction-based AMPLICOR(®) test, infection immunohistochemical...
Malignancies occur in approximately 1:1000 pregnancies; the most common being breast (46%) and hematological (18%) malignancies. Oral cancers account for only 2% of all pregnant women, there are no standard guidelines treatment oral cancer during pregnancy.Between 2007 2014, our department managed 1109 patients with cancers; four (0.4%) had tongue carcinomas pregnancy. These cases were retrospectively reviewed. The women aged 29-39 (median 32.5) years. Two underwent partial glossectomy at 39...
The incidence of oral cancer in Japan accounts for 1% all cancers, with tongue accounting 60% cancers based on the subsite. most common histologic type is squamous cell carcinoma. This study aimed to evaluate series surgical treatments 432 patients carcinoma (OTSCC). Initial primary site included partial glossectomy, hemiglossectomy, and total or subtotal glossectomy 348, 58, 26 patients, respectively. Therapeutic neck dissection, elective subsequent dissection were performed 74, 53, 37...
To evaluate the impact of cone beam CT (CBCT) in diagnostic thinking efficacy, management and prognosis patients with suspected Stage 0 medication-related osteonecrosis jaw (MRONJ).For 15 MRONJ, clinical photographs, a panoramic radiograph selected CBCT sections were identified. 13 oral surgeons reviewed material answered 10 questions two different sessions. First session included photographs radiographs, while second also images. Questions (Qs) referred to dental disease bone abnormalities...
The FTO gene has been reported as an obesity-associated and is also considered a risk for osteoarthritis (OA). However, its exact function unclear, there conflicting evidence on the involvement of polymorphisms in OA via obesity. purpose this study was to determine effects polymorphism rs8044769 alleles temporomandibular joint (TMJ), which minimally affected by body weight.A total 324 TMJs (113 with 211 without OA, serving controls) from 162 Japanese patients disorders undergoing MRI...
Abstract Unilateral anterior disc displacement (uADD) has been shown to affect the contralateral joints qualitatively. This study aims assess quantitative T2 values of articular and retrodiscal tissue patients with uADD at 1.5 Tesla (T). The included 65 17 volunteers. regions interest on maps were evaluated. affected demonstrated significantly higher (31.5 ± 3.8 ms) than those unaffected (28.9 4.5 ( P < 0.001). For tissue, (37.8 5.8 (41.6 7.1 longer normal volunteers (34.4 3.2...
