We describe humans with rare biallelic loss-of-function PTCRA variants impairing pre-α T cell receptor (pre-TCRα) expression. Low circulating naive αβ counts at birth persisted over time, normal memory and high γδ counts. Their TCRα repertoire was biased, which suggests that noncanonical thymic differentiation pathways can rescue development. Only a minority of these individuals were sick, infection, lymphoproliferation, and/or autoimmunity. also report 1 in 4000 from the Middle East South...
Retinol-binding protein (RBP) is a low-molecular-mass (21 kDa), easily filtered in renal glomeruli and very efficiently reabsorbed by the proximal convoluted tubules (PCTs). In PCT dysfunction, high concentrations of RBP are found urine. Several methods have been used to determine serum or We describe production, selection, labeling, utilization anti-RBP monoclonal antibodies two- one-step immunoenzymometric assays for determination RBP. The assay has good precision, with within-run...

We evaluated the presence of proximal renal tubular dysfunction as measured by urinary retinol-binding protein (RBP) in 70 patients with systemic lupus erythematosus. Renal disease activity was assessed using British Isles Lupus Assessment Group (BILAG) index. This is a clinical-laboratory score based on principle physician's intention to treat. Increased RBP (> 400 micrograms/l) detected 17 22 (77%) active nephritis, six 18 (33%) probably one nine (12%) cases stable disease, and 21 (5%)...
