Traditional weather and climate forecasting is used by many indigenous communities worldwide as a guide in making important decisions that enable them cope adapt to change-induced extreme variation. In pastoral Africa, traditional remains the most accessible affordable source of information. this study, we individual interviews focused group discussions systematically document knowledge among Afar pastoralists, with aim such information available, enhance use change adaptation explore...
Since the Chinese government carried out reform and opening up policy, Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture has experienced rapid urbanization dramatic land use change. This research aims at analyzing urban expansion in its impact on pattern using combined methods, including radar graph, gradient-direction method landscape metrics. Seven maps from 1976 to 2015 were generated analyzed, respectively. The results showed that rubber expanded rapidly, while forest decreased during last 40...
With the intention to augment better management of human-wildlife conflicts (HWC) in Kenya, we assessed a national HWC pattern using decade-long (2005–2016) monitoring data series. The results demonstrate that out 29,647 reported cases, crop raiding was most frequent type (73%) followed by livestock depredation (23%) and infrastructure damage (4%). Different crops, wildlife species involved were also identified. Although cases from all 47 counties make up about 75% incidences occurred 10...
Physical activity (PA) plays an important role in the process of several chronic diseases. It may be also associated with incidence sarcopenia. This study aimed to determine association PA from different components including frequency, duration, intensity, and volume sarcopenia middle-aged older adults.
Estimated glucose disposal rate (eGDR) is considered as a reliable alternative indicator of insulin resistance. However, the relationship between eGDR levels and mortality among individuals with cardiometabolic syndrome (CMS), well within different metabolic states in this population, remains unclear. We conducted cohort study on 9928 CMS participants from National Health Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database 1999 to 2018. The population was evaluated using multivariable Cox...
Drylands play major roles in the terrestrial carbon cycle and mitigation of climate change. Understanding dynamics soil organic (SOC) stocks under land use change management is essential for achieving C sequestration through land-based solutions drylands. In this paper, we briefly reviewed literature to evaluate impact on dryland SOC stocks. While site-level field measurements different types are remarkable, found that hardly quantified at regional level using selected datasets or process...
Local communities in mining regions are vulnerable to water scarcity risks caused by extensive and changing climate. To mitigate such risks, we adopt a non-market valuation of low income communities’ preferences for improved access services, as an effort develop pro-poor policies that bring long-term security benefits the local people. Using data collected from 268 households site Thar coalfield (Pakistan), examine household willingness pay (WTP) all major uses based on hypothetical policy...
Access to off-farm employment has been expected be one of important approaches end hunger and all forms malnutrition, which are two targets achieving Zero Hunger. This study aims investigate the role in improving dietary diversity through substitution effect complementary with agricultural production activities, income effect. Using primary survey data among 1282 households at 12 sites environmentally economically vulnerability areas China, Nepal, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar 2019,...
Abstract Protected areas are vital for biodiversity conservation although some have been criticized not providing adequate socio‐economic benefits to local people. Yet, empirical studies on impacts of protected that control confounding factors rare. Here, we assessed the potential Maasai Mara National Reserve in south‐western Kenya welfare (indicated by levels income, consumption and assets) of, poverty incidence among, 423 randomly selected households. We used descriptive statistics...
The contradiction between environmental protection and livelihood development is becoming increasingly serious for most protected areas in developing countries. Livelihood diversification an efficient way to increase household income alleviate poverty related protection. However, its impacts on welfare have rarely been quantitatively explored. This article investigates the determinants of four strategies Maasai Mara National Reserve explores association heterogeneities. Based sustainable...

Agrobiodiversity conservation is vital for achieving sustainability, but empirical studies on the effects of different practices or measures crop diversity are rare. This study aims to estimate raising awareness (RCA), building blocks (BDB), and their combination among 240 randomly selected households surrounding Rupa Lake Watershed in Nepal. Based descriptive analysis multiple regression models, results indicate that two single had no significant effect numbers species varieties grown by...
