This case of an 11-month-old female who developed severe neutropenia following COVID-19 infection underscores the need for heightened vigilance and monitoring hematological parameters in infants post-COVID-19. The exact mechanism COVID-19-induced is not fully understood, but it may involve cytokine-induced suppression hematopoiesis bone marrow repression due to inflammatory response. Given potential serious clinical implications, including increased susceptibility infections, crucial...
Ischemia and tissue injury are common in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging offers combined evaluations of each phenomenon at sufficiently high resolution to examine transmural spatial distribution. In this prospective cohort study, we the distribution stress perfusion abnormalities cardiomyopathy. One hundred consecutive cardiomyopathy underwent cardiovascular imaging. Cine, perfusion, late gadolinium enhancement, T2-weighted techniques were...
Background and aims People who inject drugs (PWID) are historically viewed as having “difficult to treat” hepatitis C disease, with perceived inferior treatment adherence outcomes, concerns regarding reinfection risk. We evaluated for differences in response Peginterferon-alfa-2a/Ribavirin (Peg-IFNα/RBV) a large urban cohort without history of remote or recent injection drug use. Methods Patient data was retrospectively reviewed 1000 consecutive patients—608 former (no injecting use 6 months...
Volumetric‐modulated arc therapy (VMAT) is emerging as a leading technology in treating early‐stage, non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR). However, two other modalities capable of delivering intensity‐modulated radiation (IMRT) include fixed‐beam and helical TomoTherapy (HT). This study aims to provide an extensive dosimetric comparison among these various IMRT techniques for early‐stage NSCLC SABR. Ten patients were retrospectively optimized...
Radiotherapy for the treatment of left-sided breast cancer increases long-term risk cardiovascular disease. The purpose present study was to noninvasively image progression radiation-induced cardiac inflammation in a large animal model using hybrid PET and MRI system. Five canines were imaged [18F]fluorodeoxyglucose assess changes myocardial inflammation. All animals at baseline, 1 wk, 1, 3, 6, 12 mo after focused external beam irradiation with guidance. Radiation delivered single fraction....
Anderson-Fabry disease, a rare X-linked lysosomal disorder, and congenital dyserythropoietic anemia (CDA) Type II, an autosomal recessive condition, both have distinct inheritance patterns. Their co-occurrence is extremely rare, never been reported before. Therefore, screening crucial for early management, families should seek genetic counseling children showing unusual presentations.
Introduction: Long‐term cardiac side effects in left‐sided breast cancer patients (BREL) after post‐operative radiotherapy has become one of the most debated issues radiation oncology. Through breathing‐adapted volume heart exposed to can be significantly reduced by delivering only at end inspiration phase respiratory cycle, this is referred as gating (IG). The purpose study quantify potential reduction exposure during IG compared conventional BREL and assess dosimetric impact motion due...
Hepatic artery stenosis (HAS) following liver transplantation results in hypoperfusion and ischemic damage to the biliary tree. This study aimed investigate how vascular intervention, function test derangement, time point of HAS onset influence complications.A single-center retrospective adult patients that underwent primary transplantation. Patients were grouped according presence or absence then into early (≤90 d) late (>90 subgroups. Biliary complications comprised anastomotic (AS) non...
Patients who undergo solid organ transplantation are at risk of opportunistic infection associated with immunosuppression. We report a case confirmed donor derived visceral leishmaniasis (VL), in patient following liver causing fever and pancytopenia. The diagnosis was by bone marrow biopsy, positive serology, no other route transmission. To our knowledge, this is the first United Kingdom Europe, transmission VL. This highlights an important consideration infections, context transplantation.
Abstract Purpose of Review Patients undergoing liver transplantation (LT) are at high risk sarcopenia and associated physical frailty. This review summarises advances in our knowledge the definition, assessment, clinical implications management LT. Recent Findings Sarcopenia is with increased mortality, morbidity, disability poor quality life both before after Assessment tools have evolved from solely relying on imaging (i.e. muscle area only) to reproducible measures function performance...
Background Left-sided breast cancer patients receiving adjuvant radiotherapy are at risk for coronary artery disease, and/or radiation mediated effects on the microvasculature. Previously our laboratory demonstrated in canines with hybrid 18 FDG/PET a progressive global inflammatory response during initial one year following treatment. In this study, objective is to evaluate corresponding changes perfusion, same cohort, where resting myocardial blood flow (MBF) was quantitatively measured....
Chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection can be cured with treatment using direct-acting antivirals (DAAs). Although these drugs have been widely studied, information about certain special populations is missing. In this case report we describe a treatment-experienced patient chronic HCV genotype 1b, treated 150 mg/day simeprevir, 400 sofosbuvir, and 1,000 mg/ day ribavirin for 24 weeks, after Roux-and-Y gastric bypass. At steady-state pharmacokinetic curve was recorded of GS-331007,...
Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is an immune-mediated chronic liver disease that affects all ages, including women of childbearing age. Optimal management during pregnancy poorly defined. We aimed to explore the clinical and biochemical course AIH in antenatal postpartum periods, assess factors associated with premature birth flares. Pregnant reviewed autoimmune clinic at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham between 2009 2020 were identified retrospectively, clinical, biochemical, immunological...
A proton therapy system with 190° gantries uses robotic couch rotations to change the treatment beam laterality. Couch are typically validated clinically post-rotation radiographic imaging. This study assesses specificity and sensitivity of a commercial 3D surface imaging system, AlignRT (Vision RT, London UK) for validating rotations. In clinical operation, reference image patient is acquired after setup at 270°, perpendicular gantry axis rotation. The then rotated ±90° typical angle, reports...
