Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) is a newly discovered infectious disease caused by novel coronavirus. During the community outbreak in Hong Kong, 5 liveborn infants were born to pregnant women with SARS. A systematic search for perinatal transmission of SARS-associated coronavirus, including serial reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction assays, viral cultures, and paired serologic titers, failed detect virus any infants. In addition, none developed clinical, radiologic,...
Abstract Fecal microbiota transplant (FMT) has emerged as a potential treatment for severe colitis associated with graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) following hematopoietic stem cell transplant. Bacterial engraftment from FMT donor to recipient been reported, however the fate of fungi and viruses after remains unclear. Here we report longitudinal dynamics gut bacteriome, mycobiome virome in teenager GvHD receiving four doses at weekly interval. After serial FMTs, patient differ compositions...
We used a combination approach of conventional virus isolation and molecular techniques to detect human metapneumovirus (HMPV) in patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). Of the 48 study patients, 25 (52.1%) were infected HMPV; 6 these also coronavirus, another 5 (10.4%) coronavirus alone. Using this approach, we found that laryngeal carcinoma (HEp-2) cells superior rhesus monkey kidney (LLC-MK2) commonly previous studies for HMPV. These widely available HEp-2 should be...
The progression to disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) in infected very low birth weight (VLBW; <1500 g) infants is difficult predict with precision at the onset of sepsis. We investigated immunologic profiles preterm sepsis, using chemokine and cytokine measurements development sepsis-induced DIC infection. We measured a panel chemokines cytokines 0 24 h after clinical presentation VLBW suspected infection requiring full sepsis screening. were interleukin (IL)-8,...
To study the inflammatory cytokine profile in children with severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and to investigate whether monoclonal antibody tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) could be considered for treatment of these patients.Plasma concentrations (interleukin [IL]-1beta, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IL-12p70, TNF-alpha) were monitored longitudinally on admission, immediately before corticosteroids, 1 2 days 7 10 after drug a cohort pediatric patients (n = 8) virologic confirmed...

Introduction
Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a rare disease with diverse clinical courses. Despite improvement in survival outcomes the recent decades, sequelae of remain concern. This study aimed to provide information on long-term patients LCH, particularly and any associated factors.
Method
Medical records diagnosis LCH being managed our centre were retrospectively reviewed. Data courses illness, mortality, intervention, types time late events collected analysed....
Abstract We evaluated a virus-infected cell-based indirect immunofluorescence assay for detecting anti–severe acute respiratory syndrome-associated coronavirus (SARS-CoV) immunoglobulin (Ig) G antibody. All confirmed SARS cases demonstrated seroconversion or fourfold rise in IgG antibody titer; no control was positive. Sensitivity and specificity of this were both 100%. Immunofluorescence can ascertain the status SARS-CoV infection.
Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) is a recently recognized condition of viral origin associated with substantial morbidity and mortality rates in adults. Little information available on its radiologic manifestations children. The goal this study was to characterize the radiographic presentation children SARS.We abstracted data (n=62) appearance course SARS pediatric patients suspect (n=25) or probable (n=37) SARS, diagnosed five hospital sites located three cities: Toronto, Singapore,...
Here we report a familial cluster of 3 cases coxsackievirus B3 infection: recent history illness in woman's 3-year-old son with B3-positive stool culture indicated that he probably infected his mother at home during her last week pregnancy. Consequently, she delivered an neonate who developed severe hepatitis, disseminated intravascular coagulation, and bilateral intracranial hemorrhage. The remained well for the first 2 days life. On third day, fever (39 degrees C) poor peripheral...
Abstract Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumour (IMFT) is a distinct entity with variable clinical presentation and therapeutic options. We present three paediatric cases of IMFT, originated from the lung, bladder ovary respectively. All lesions were heterogeneous, mixed solid/cystic components infiltrative pattern, interpreted as aggressive malignant neoplasms initially due to their bizarre imaging appearance. The definitive diagnosis was derived characteristic histopathological features....
Catecholamine-associated cardiomyopathies caused by neuroblastoma have rarely been reported. We are reporting 2 cases of associated with hypertension and severe cardiomyopathic changes in different extremes. One case was dilated cardiomyopathy heart failure, the other showed echocardiographic features simulating hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy. Both girls had high levels urine catecholamines on presentation. Anthracycline group chemotherapy avoided. Chemotherapy tumor resection...
Abstract Background Septicemia is an important cause of treatment‐related mortality and treatment failure in pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) developing countries. A multicenter CCCG‐ALL‐2015 study was conducted China factors associated with septicemia were studied. Methods Patients participated from January 2015 to December 2017 included. documented identified the Data Center additional data collected. Results total 4080 patients recruited 527 (12.9%, 95% CI 11.9%‐13.9%). The...
Abstract Despite the expanding portfolio of targeted therapies for adults with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), direct implementation in children is challenging due to inherent differences underlying genetics. Here we established pharmacologic profile pediatric AML by screening myeloblast sensitivity approved and investigational agents, revealing candidates immediate clinical relevance. Drug responses ex vivo correlated patient characteristics, exhibited age-specific alterations, concorded...
showed that, for urine samples, the results obtained with CBB method do not agree those M-TP, BC, BTC, or PYR methods. The comparison studies that BC correlates better M-TP than BTC and methods CSF based on slope, intercept, correlation (r) values.BC is a widely used disinfectant much less expensive other reagents, especially dyes PYR.It also inhibits bacterial contamination, this can be reason reagent stability.Shephard Whiting (17 ) compared four protein precipitants-BC, trichloroacetic...
The role of ganciclovir as HHV-6 prophylaxis in unrelated HSCT setting remains controversial. We performed an eight-yr retrospective review patients received from January 2000 to September 2008. From 2002, 5 mg/kg twice daily for seven days all before transplant was adopted. prevalence encephalitis studied and after the change policy. Fifty-four were Four cases (7.4%) diagnosed. All them due variant B infection. Two out 16 (12.5%) diagnosed adoption policy; two 38 (5.3%) afterward. UCB...
