Objectives
Data on the incidence of symptomatic osteoarthritis (OA) are scarce. We estimated clinical hip, knee and hand OA, studied effect prevalent OA joint-specific incident OA.
Methods
SIDIAP contains primary care records for>5 million people from Catalonia (Spain). Participants aged ≥40 years with an diagnosis knee, hip or between 2006 2010 were identified using International Classification Diseases (ICD)-10 codes. Incidence rates female-to-male rate ratios (RRs)...
Objective. To identify pre-operative predictors of patient-reported outcomes primary total knee replacement (TKR) surgery.
Guidance is provided in an international setting on the assessment and specific treatment of postmenopausal women at low, high very risk fragility fractures. The International Osteoporosis Foundation European Society for Clinical Economic Aspects Osteoarthritis published guidance diagnosis management osteoporosis 2019. This manuscript seeks to apply this setting, taking additional account further categorisation increased fracture, which may inform choice therapeutic approach. perspective...
Innovations in technology have contributed to rapid changes the way that modern biomedical research is carried out. Researchers are increasingly required endorse adaptive and flexible approaches accommodate these innovations comply with ethical, legal regulatory requirements. This paper explores how Dynamic Consent may provide solutions address challenges encountered when researchers invite individuals participate follow them up over time a continuously changing environment. An...
To describe the natural history of subchondral bone marrow lesions (BMLs) in a sample subjects with knee osteoarthritis (OA) or at risk developing it. Additionally, to examine association change BMLs from baseline 30-month follow-up cartilage loss same subregion follow-up.1.0 T MRI was performed using proton density-weighted, fat-suppressed sequences. BML size and status were scored subregions according WORMS system. Subregions categorised based on comparison status. A logistic regression...
Using a large cohort of hip fracture patients, we estimated hospital costs to be £14,163 and £2139 in the first second year following fracture, respectively. Second non-hip fractures were major cost drivers. There is strong economic incentive identify cost-effective approaches for prevention. The purpose this study was estimate up 2 years post-fracture compare before after index fracture. A patients aged over 60 admitted with UK region between 2003 2013 identified from records followed until...
Maternal vitamin D status has been associated with bone mass of offspring in many, but not all, observational studies. However, maternal repletion during pregnancy yet proven to improve a randomised controlled trial. We aimed assess whether neonates born mothers supplemented have greater whole-body mineral content (BMC) at birth than those who had received supplementation. The Vitamin Osteoporosis Study (MAVIDOS) was multicentre, double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled trial that...
ABSTRACT Osteoporosis-related fractures are undertreated, due in part to misinformation about recommended approaches patient care and discrepancies among treatment guidelines. To help bridge this gap improve outcomes, the American Society for Bone Mineral Research assembled a multistakeholder coalition develop clinical recommendations optimal prevention of secondary fracture people aged 65 years older with hip or vertebral fracture. The developed 13 (7 primary 6 secondary) strongly supported...
A growing body of evidence has consistently shown a correlation between obesity and chronic subclinical inflammation. It is unclear whether the size specific adipose depots more closely associated with concentrations inflammatory markers than overall adiposity. This study investigated relationship computerized tomography-derived abdominal visceral subcutaneous fat thigh intermuscular in older white black adults. Data were from 2,651 men women aged 70-79 years participating Health, Aging,...
Abstract The National Osteoporosis Society (NOS) published its document, Vitamin D and Bone Health: A Practical Clinical Guideline for Patient Management, in 2013 as a practical clinical guideline on the management of vitamin deficiency adult patients with, or at risk developing, bone disease. There has been no clear consensus UK assessment treatment, practice is inconsistent. This aimed clinicians, including doctors, nurses dieticians. It recommends measurement serum 25 (OH) (25OHD) to...
We obtained information from the Elective Orthopaedic Centre on 1523 patients with baseline and six-month Oxford hip scores (OHS) after undergoing primary replacement (THR) 1784 knee (OKS) for (TKR) who completed a satisfaction questionnaire. Receiver operating characteristic curves identified an absolute change in OHS of 14 points or more as point that discriminates best between patients' levels 11-point OKS. Satisfaction is highest (97.6%) more, compared lower (81.8%) below this threshold....
