Delayed paraplegia is a devastating complication of thoracoabdominal aortic surgery. Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) was reported to be protective in mouse model spinal cord ischemia and the beneficial effect H2S has been attributed polysulfides. The objective this study investigate effects polysulfides on delayed after ischemia. Spinal induced male female C57BL/6J mice by clamping arch left subclavian artery. Glutathione trisulfide (GSSSG), glutathione (GSH), disulfide (GSSG), or vehicle alone...

Electroencephalogram-derived monitors are affected by various artifacts. HeartMate 3™ operates at frequency bands that overlap with those used for calculating the electromyographic index (EMG) and bispectral (BIS) on Bispectral Index™ monitor. This study investigated whether 3 elevates these values, a change not predicted II™. retrospective observational included data from patients who underwent or II implantation between April 2008 December 2023 as extracted our institutional database....

Peripheral neuropathy is a dose-limiting side effect of chemotherapy with paclitaxel. Paclitaxel-induced peripheral (PIPN) typically characterized by predominantly sensory presenting allodynia, hyperalgesia and spontaneous pain. Oxidative mitochondrial damage in neurons implicated the pathogenesis PIPN. Reactive sulfur species, including persulfides (RSSH) polysulfides (RSnH), are strong nucleophilic electrophilic compounds that exert antioxidant effects protect mitochondria. Here, we...

Abstract Background and Objectives Carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning is responsible for nearly 50,000 emergency department visits 1200 deaths per year. Compared to oxygen, CO has a 250‐fold higher affinity hemoglobin (Hb), resulting in the displacement of oxygen from Hb impaired delivery tissues. Optimal treatment CO‐poisoned patients involves administration hyperbaric 100% remove restore delivery. However, chambers are not widely available this requires transporting patient specialized center,...

Abstract The use of the laryngeal mask airway (LMA), which offers benefits ease in insertion and prevention tracheal damage, is associated with a risk flow leakage. This study analyzed our extensive database to compare leakage LMA endotracheal tube (ETT). Adult patients who underwent chest wall, abdominal inguinal region, limb, transurethral, or transvaginal surgery received either ETT between January 2007 March 2020 were included. leak fraction was calculated as (inspiratory tidal...

Bronchovenous fistula (BVF) associated with adult cardiac surgery is a rarely reported life-threatening condition. We present 75-year-old woman who developed BVF during surgery. Dense adhesion in the pleural and pericardial cavities was noted. Restrictive pulmonary pathology required high airway pressure. Transesophageal echocardiography hemoglobin measurement were helpful for timely diagnosis of BVF, which controlled by transection right upper vein where vent catheter had been inserted....

Lactate is a well-known marker to estimate prognosis after cardiac surgery and critically ill patients. The liver kidney have major role in lactate metabolism; however, there was less characterized about the change of threshold predict in-hospital mortality dialysis-dependent patients undertaking surgery. We conducted this retrospective observational study characterize when how values affected mortality. This two-center included who underwent with cardiopulmonary bypass from January 2014...
