The aim of this study was to determine whether GSH-C4, a hydrophobic glutathione derivative, affects in vitro and vivo influenza virus infection by interfering with redox-sensitive intracellular pathways involved the maturation viral hemagglutinin (HA).GSH-C4 strongly inhibited A replication cultured cells lethally infected mice, where it also reduced lung damage mortality. In cell-culture studies, GSH-C4 arrested HA folding; disulfide-rich glycoprotein remained endoplasmic reticulum as...

Influenza virus replicates intracellularly exploiting several pathways involved in the regulation of host responses. The outcome and severity infection are thus strongly conditioned by multiple factors, including age, sex, metabolic, redox conditions target cells. Hormones also important determinants immune responses to influenza recently proposed prophylaxis treatment. This study shows that female mice less susceptible than males mouse-adapted (A/PR8/H1N1). Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is an aggressive group of biliary tract cancers, characterized by late diagnosis, low effective chemotherapies, multidrug resistance, and poor outcomes. In the attempt to identify new therapeutic strategies for CCA, we studied antiproliferative activity a combination between doxorubicin natural sesquiterpene β-caryophyllene in cholangiocarcinoma Mz-ChA-1 cells nonmalignant H69 cholangiocytes, under both long-term metronomic schedules. The modulation STAT3 signaling,...

Background:Cassia angustifolia L. (senna) is traditionally used as a laxative. Its major components are sennosides that responsible for the laxative effect. Senna recommended short-term treatment of acute constipation. Nevertheless people use its preparations self-medication, often long periods, to treat chronic constipation thus exposing themselves adverse reactions. Most reactions were associated with hepatotoxicity. Aims: The...

Alpha-synuclein (α-syn) is a presynaptic neuronal protein and its structural alterations play an important role in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson's disease (PD). It has been originally described brain aggregated α-syn also found peripheral nerves including enteric nervous system (ENS) PD patients. ENS network neurons glia gut wall which controls gastrointestinal function independently from central system. Moreover, two types epithelial cells are crucial...

The structure of the photophores (luminous organs) two species deep‐sea fishes from Strait Messina, Argyropelecus hemigymnus and Maurolicus muelleri , was examined. Although significant structural differences were identified between species, especially in photophore organization distribution, ultrastructural comparisons indicated a marked similarity them. photocytes exhibited numerous secretory granules, different electron density, embedded an extremely developed rough endoplasmic reticulum....

Angiogenesis plays a fundamental role in tumor growth and progression. It is regulated by several factors, including vascular endothelial factor protein family (VEGF) its receptors, which are probably the most important factors responsible for development of new vessels. The VEGF includes members: VEGF-A, VEGF-B, VEGF-C, VEGF-D, VEGF-E, placental (PlGF), their receptors VEGFR-1, VEGFR-2 VEGFR-3. Other relevant represented angiopoietins, thrombospondin-1, endothelins. Some morphometrical parameters of the axons making up contralateral sciatic nerves, both in male and female rabbits were calculated compared by means a Zeiss Vidas image analyser (Ober Kochen, Germany). The results show that fibres constituting left nerve have greater mean diameter but lower density those constitution right nerve. This suggests myelinated unmyelinated do not vary from to female. On other hand, G ratio do, since nerves on side (in sexes) higher morphometric values, average, than ones.
