Abstract The emergence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) Gram-negative pathogens is an urgent global medical challenge. old polymyxin lipopeptide antibiotics (polymyxin B and colistin) are often the only therapeutic option due to resistance all other classes lean antibiotic drug development pipeline. However, colistin suffer from major issues in safety (dose-limiting nephrotoxicity, acute toxicity), pharmacokinetics (poor exposure lungs) efficacy (negligible activity against pulmonary infections)...

A novel Gram-stain-negative, rods or bent rods, facultatively anaerobic, oxidase-negative and catalase-positive bacterium, designated XK5T, was isolated from coastal sediment Xiaoshi Island, Weihai, China. Optimal growth occurred at 28-35 °C (range 8-42 °C) pH 7.0-8.0 6.0-9.0) with 1-3 % (w/v) NaCl 0.5-8 %). Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain XK5T 92.1 similar to the type of Thioalkalivibrio thiocyanodenitrificans, 91.9 sulfidiphilus 91.8...

Recurrent urinary tract infections (rUTI) are common in kidney transplant recipients (KTR) and associated with multidrug resistance increased morbidity/mortality. Novel antibiotic alternatives to reduce UTI recurrence critically needed. We describe a case of rUTI due extended spectrum beta lactamase (ESBL) Klebsiella pneumoniae KTR that was treated successfully 4 weeks adjunctive intravenous bacteriophage therapy alone, without concomitant antibiotics, no year follow-up.

There is an urgent unmet medical need for new treatments wound and burn infections caused by multidrug-resistant Gram-negative "superbugs," especially the problematic Pseudomonas aeruginosa. In this work, incorporation of colistin, a potent lipopeptide into self-healable hydrogel (via dynamic imine bond formation) following chemical reaction between amine groups present in glycol chitosan aldehyde-modified poly(ethylene glycol), reported. The storage module (G') colistin-loaded ranges from...

Pseudomonas aeruginosa often causes multidrug-resistant infections in immunocompromised patients, and polymyxins are used as the last-line therapy. Alarmingly, resistance to has been increasingly reported worldwide recently. To rescue this last-resort class of antibiotics, it is necessary systematically understand how P. alters its metabolism response polymyxin treatment, thereby facilitating development effective therapies. end, a genome-scale metabolic model (GSMM) was analyze bacterial...
