The distribution of Mycobacterium avium-intracellulare complex (MAC) in residences was examined. MAC only recovered from bathrooms but not other sites residences. appearance ratio the patients with pulmonary significantly higher than that healthy volunteers' (P = .01). For 2 patients, genotypes environmental isolates were identical to their respective clinical isolates.

Tumor metastasis is the most common cause of cancer death. Elucidation mechanism tumor therefore important in development novel, effective anti-cancer therapies to reduce mortality. Interaction between cells and surrounding stromal microenvironment a key factor metastasis. Using co-culture assay system with human prostate LNCaP primary cells, we identified epithelial membrane protein 1 (EMP1) as gene elevated expression cells. The orthotopic injection overexpressing EMP1 (EMP1-LNCaP cells)...

Aging increases oxidative stress (OS) in the ovaries, leading to infertility-related dis-orders. Granulosa cells (GCs), which support folliculogenesis are chron-ically exposed excessive OS under pathological conditions. Here, we demonstrate significant role of Rubicon, an autophagy suppressor, as a DNA damage mediator GCs OS. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) decreased cell viability human GC line, HGrC1, due damage, without affecting autophagic activity. However, activation increased resistance...

To improve the efficacy and selectivity of gene therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), we designed a strategy suicide in conjunction with radiation using an HVJ-liposome vector system. The radio-inducible was constructed by insertion early growth response 1 (Egr-1) promoter upstream HSV-tk (EGF-tk). First, to test tumor specificity Egr-1, RT-PCR immunohistochemistry were performed. Egr-1 highly expressed HCC compared normal liver, where expression barely detectable. Next,...

Hydrocortisone at 10(-4) M added to macrophage cell lines had no effect on the following activities: J774.1 antibody-dependent phagocytosis and lysis of sheep RBC, RAW 264 tumor targets, latex bead by PU5-1.8 cells, constitutive production myeloid colony-stimulating activity (CSA) WEHI-3 cells. In contrast, hydrocortisone completely inhibited LPS or PPD activation functions: induced CSA, stimulation targets line, RBC line. Lower concentrations dexamethasone 10(-6) induction CSA from 55 90%....

Abstract Problem Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) is a clinical syndrome defined by the loss of activity before 40 years old. An autoimmune mechanism suggested to be involved in development POI. Therefore, we examined relationship between peripheral blood regulatory T (Treg) cells and autoantibodies Method study Thirty POI patients 23 control women were enrolled study. Using flow cytometry, measured abundance CD4 + T, CD69 CD8 naive Treg, effector FOXP3 blood. Antinuclear...

Immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies against purified cord factor (trehalose-6,6′-dimycolate) prepared from Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and its diagnostic usefulness was evaluated. Serum specimens 65 patients with active pulmonary tuberculosis, 58 inactive 36 diseases other than 66 healthy adults examined. Patients showed significantly higher titers of IgG did groups (p < 0.001). The antibody titer greater 0.29 in absorption...

Whether or not serum selenium and vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol) concentrations were changed was examined among healthy families of lung cancer patients. Family members as a whole (115 sons daughters 55 patients with primary cancer) found to have trend lower levels (0.116 ± SD 0.024 μg/ml, 0.05 < P 0.1). Particularly adenocarcinoma patients, the mean level significantly (0.111 0.019 0.05) than that (0.122 0.014 μg/ml) in age-ratio matched controls who did their second-degree relatives. Serum...
