This paper describes the synthesis and characterization of self-assembled second-order nonlinear optical multilayer materials containing high-hyperpolarizability [(aminophenyl)azo]pyridinium chromophore. The chromophoric multilayers are assembled on clean glass or single-crystal silicon substrates via following iterative reaction sequence: (1) treatment with 4-ClCH2C6H4SiCl3, 3-BrC3H6SiCl3, 3-IC3H6SiCl3 to afford a coupling layer; (2) quaternization...

We report the fabrication and test results for polymeric electro-optic modulators with a half-wave voltage of 0.8 V voltage-interaction length product 2.2 cm. These employ an optical push–pull architecture are made from poly(methylmethacrylate) high molecular hyperpolarizability polyene bridge-type chromophore. An coefficient 58 pm/V was obtained at 1318 nm wavelength. The guest–host polymer system exhibited thermal stability to 75 °C relatively stable nonlinearity ambient conditions....

The nuclear shell structure, which originates in the nearly independent motion of nucleons an average potential, provides important guide for our understanding structure and underlying forces. Its most remarkable fingerprint is existence so-called `magic numbers' protons neutrons associated with extra stability.
