Abstract BACKGROUND Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) have multiple contributory factors and immunologic etiologies. Atopic (AD) occur frequently with IBD, AD severity is positively associated IBD development. Similar cytokine profiles are found in both include elevated TNFα IL-17, reduced IL-10. Whereas differences the gut microbiome noted diseases, previous studies did not assess compositional vs without AD. Hence, to identify key microbes that might contribute shared underlying immune...
Abstract Background Clinical and molecular subcategories of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are needed to discover mechanisms predictors response relapse. We aimed develop a study prospective adult research cohort with IBD (SPARC IBD) including longitudinal clinical patient-reported data biosamples. Methods established adults from geographically diverse sample patients across the United States standardized biosample collection methods processing techniques. At enrollment at time lower...
In two separate cohorts, intestinal resection for Crohn's disease was associated with reduced alpha diversity and increased Proteobacteria Bacteroidetes Firmicutes.Surgery also decreased abundance of bai operon genes secondary bile acids, including isoLCA.
Fecal incontinence (FI) is frequently reported in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).We retrospectively reviewed data from the Study of a Prospective Adult Research Cohort with IBD registry.Three hundred forty-seven patients had Crohn and 145 ulcerative colitis. 14.2% FI. FI was associated active disease. not location, phenotype, or perianal involvement. Greater than 50 years age 15 increased odds remission decreased FI.Further research into mechanism needed.
Retroperitoneal fibrosis (RPF) is a rare disease characterized by the presence of fibroinflammatory tissue that surrounds abdominal aorta and iliac arteries often entraps ureters. Hydronephrosis common complication RPF, however, its clinical features outcomes have not been well elucidated.
Abstract Background Extraintestinal manifestations (EIMs) of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) are a common and debilitating feature disease, occurring in up to 40% patients with IBD, yet predicting who may develop them is difficult. The goal our study was better characterize which be at highest risk developing not only 1 EIM, but also multiple EIMs, across both diseases. Methods A retrospective participants enrolled the SPARC IBD (Study Prospective Adult Research Cohort IBD) registry...
When a bulging appendiceal orifice is observed during surveillance colonoscopy, the possibility of mucocele must be considered. Appendiceal rare group lesions characterized by mucinous distension lumen with dangerous potential to rupture, resulting in development pseudomyxoma peritonei. Early recognition and diagnosis can prevent dreaded complication peritonei but it requires high index suspicion. Patients inflammatory bowel disease are at increased risk for colorectal neoplasm appendix...
Abstract: Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are the two most common subtypes of inflammatory bowel disease. Most studies show that this patient population is increasing in incidence. Patients with these diseases require lifelong care by experienced practitioners however traditional medical model not ideal for patients who continuous close monitoring whose symptoms may dramatically worsen between regularly scheduled visits. uncontrolled experience abdominal pain, diarrhea, rectal...
Abstract Background The prevalence and risk factors of eating disorders among patients with IBD are poorly described in existing literature. Early recognition intervention may influence clinical outcomes both physical mental health. primary aims this study were to describe the identify for using a validated questionnaire, EAT-26. Methods EAT-26 was administered via email as an anonymous, unpaid, online survey 1589 electronic medical record coded diagnosis (ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s...
Abstract Background and Aim Patients with chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) may develop inflammatory bowel (IBD). Characterization of small in this cohort is scarce. Here, we sought to determine the prevalence characteristics evaluate clinical utility video capsule endoscopy (VCE) for its diagnosis. Methods A retrospective study was performed on patients CGD who were evaluated gastrointestinal VCE as a part ongoing natural history studies at single academic center. VCEs reviewed findings...
Swallows with viscous or solid boluses in different body positions alter esophageal manometry patterns. Limitations of previous studies include lack standardized substrates and the need for chewing prior to swallowing boluses. We hypothesize that high-resolution impedance (HRiM) using super-viscous swallows supine upright improves sensitivity detecting motility abnormalities when compared traditional saline swallows. To establish normative values these novel substrates, we recruited healthy...
Despite the impact of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, vaccine hesitancy remains common in general public and patients with Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD). We sought to examine reasons for IBD. In this case-control study, we performed a retrospective chart review 1,349 IBD 215 non-IBD seen at University Maryland Medical Center, tertiary referral medical center, between March 2020 October 2021. Data obtained included demographics, vaccination records, disease history, number...
Helicobacter pylori is a common infection linked to dyspepsia, peptic ulcer disease, gastritis, gastric cancer, and MALT lymphoma. Endoscopic nonendoscopic options may be used diagnosed H. confirm its eradication.
Anti-tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α have been the mainstay therapy for Crohn's (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) decades. With growing need highly effective therapy, various therapeutic targets introduced including anti-integrins, anti-interleukin (IL) 12/23, selective anti-IL23, Janus Kinase (JAK) inhibitors, sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) receptor modulators, mRNA-124 splicing agent. The current state of available IBD therapies those in development are reviewed, with recommendations made on...
