Abstract Glutaraldehyde‐fixed pericardium of animal origin is the elective material for fabrication bio‐prosthetic valves surgical replacement insufficient/stenotic cardiac valves. However, pericardial tissue employed to this aim undergoes severe calcification due chronic inflammation resulting from a non‐complete immunological compatibility animal‐derived failure remove xeno‐antigens. In mid/long‐term, leads structural deterioration, mechanical failure, and prosthesis leaflets rupture, with...

Objective To report our experience with minimally invasive mitral valve repair. Methods From 1999 to 2003, 104 patients underwent repair through a right anterolateral minithoracotomy. Most of them were in New York Heart Association functional class I–II, had normal ejection fraction and sinus rhythm. Eighty-five suffered from severe regurgitation due degenerative disease (n = 82) or healed endocarditis 3) 19 stenosis. Sixty-two edge-to-edge anterior/bileaflet prolapse, 23 quadrangular...

Myxomatous degeneration generally involves the atrioventricular valves (mitral and tricuspid). Rarely, it may affect aortic or pulmonary valve. We report a case of an acute severe insufficiency due to rupture commissure valve in patient who had previously undergone mitral surgery for myxomatous prolapse. doi: 10.1111/jocs.12276 (J Card Surg 2014;29:497–498)

Abstract Aims Patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) are at very high risk of recurrent events. A strategy to reduce excess might be deliver structured secondary prevention programmes, but their efficacy has been mostly evaluated in the short term and experimental settings. This is a retrospective case–control study aimed assessing, real world, programme reducing long-term event recurrences after artery bypass surgery (CABG). Methods results Programme participants (henceforth ‘cases’)...

The literature concerning heart surgery after pneumonectomy is still poor. Moreover, there a lack of standardized approach to such patient in the decision-making process. Here, we report case who had previously left for malignancy and coronary artery disease mitral tricuspid regurgitation treated with hybrid procedure.
