The development of targeted therapies creates a need to discriminate tumours accurately by their histological and genetic characteristics. Here, we aim identify gene expression profiles single markers that recapitulate the pathological background non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). We performed cDNA microarray analysis on series 69 NSCLCs, with known mutation status for important genes, six normal tissues. Unsupervised cluster segregated lungs from according histopathology presence EGFR...

KRAS mutation testing is required to select patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (CRC) receive anti-epidermal growth factor receptor antibodies, but the optimal test method uncertain. We conducted a two-site comparison of two commercial kits – cobas Mutation Test and Qiagen therascreen Kit Sanger sequencing. A panel 120 CRC specimens was tested all three methods. The agreement between each other methods assessed. Specimens discordant results were subjected quantitative massively...

A 44-year-old man presented to the emergency department with high-risk cardiogenic syncope. Investigations revealed a cardiac mass, corresponding metastatic melanoma. However, primary tumor was not found. Thanks histologic study, targeted immunotherapy nivolumab and ipilimumab started showed an excellent response in follow-up.

The arrival of targeted therapies has presented both a conceptual and practical challenge in the treatment patients with advanced non-small cell lung carcinomas (NSCLCs). relationship these treatments specific histologies predictive biomarkers made handling biopsies key factor for success. In this study, we highlight balance between precise histological diagnosis practice conducting multiple assays simultaneously. This can only be achieved where there is commitment to multidisciplinary...

Background: Risk factors for in-hospital mortality from severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection have been identified in studies mainly carried out urban-based teaching hospitals. However, there is little data rural populations attending community hospitals during the first wave of pandemic. Methods: A retrospective, single-center cohort study was undertaken among inpatients at a hospital Spain. Electronic medical records 444 patients (56.5% males) admitted due to SARS-CoV-2 26...

A 46-year-old woman presented for a routine echocardiogram, which revealed giant atrial septal aneurysm (ASA) with an defect (ASD). We surgically excised the ASA and closed ASD pericardial patch. ASA, although rare, poses embolic risks, thus necessitating closure when associated shunts. Optimal stroke prevention remains uncertain.
