Real-time reverse transcription-PCR (RT-PCR) is currently the most sensitive method to detect severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) that causes disease 2019 (COVID-19). However, correlation between detectable viral RNA and culturable virus in clinical specimens remains unclear. Here, we performed culture for 60 were confirmed be positive SARS-CoV-2 by real-time RT-PCR. The could successfully isolated from 12 throat nine nasopharyngeal swabs two sputum specimens.

Taiwan experienced two waves of imported infections with Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). This study aimed at investigating the genomic variation severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in and compared their evolutionary trajectories global strains. We performed culture full-genome sequencing SARS-CoV-2 strains followed by phylogenetic analysis. A 382-nucleotides deletion open reading frame 8 (ORF8) was found a Taiwanese strain isolated from patient on February 4,...

We provide the first evidence for role of ACSL4 in enterovirus replication organelle formation. Moreover, both enteroviruses and coronaviruses induce ferroptosis via ACSL4. These findings establish a novel regulatory mechanism viral replication. The inhibition by inhibitors can reduce yields coronaviruses, including SARS-CoV-2, implying that ACSL4-mediated is promising therapeutic target diseases.

Abstract Background Emergence of antibiotic resistance in bacteria is an important threat to global health. Antibiotic genes (ARGs) are some the key components define bacterial and their spread different environments. Identification ARGs, particularly from high-throughput sequencing data specimens, state-of-the-art method for comprehensively monitoring evolution. Current computational methods identify ARGs mainly rely on alignment-based sequence similarities with known ARGs. Such approaches...

Recent studies have detected mutations in the EDA gene, previously identified as causing X-linked hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia (XLHED), two families with non-syndromic hypodontia. Notably, all affected males both exhibited isolated oligodontia, while almost female carriers showed a milder or normal phenotype. We hypothesized that gene could be responsible for sporadic oligodontia males. In this study, we examined 15 unrelated oligodontia. Three novel (p.Ala259Glu, p. Arg289Cys, and...

Enteroviruses are well known for their ability to cause neurological damage and paralysis. The model enterovirus is poliovirus (PV), the causative agent of poliomyelitis, a condition characterized by acute flaccid A related virus, 71 (EV-A71), causes similar clinical outcomes in recurrent outbreaks throughout Asia. Retrospective phylogenetic analysis has shown that recombination between circulating strains EV-A71 produces outbreak-associated which exhibit increased virulence and/or...

ABSTRACT The NS1 protein encoded by influenza A virus antagonizes the interferon response through various mechanisms, including blocking cellular mRNA maturation binding CPSF30 3′ end processing factor and/or suppressing activation of regulatory 3 (IRF3). In present study, we identified two truncated proteins that are translated from internal AUGs at positions 235 and 241 open reading frame.
