Abstract Aim: Good glycemic control in gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) seems not to be enough prevent macrosomia (large‐for‐gestational‐age newborns). In GDM pregnancies we studied the effects of (as glycosylated hemoglobin [HbA1c]), pre‐pregnancy body mass index (PP‐BMI) and weight gain per week (GWG‐W) on frequency macrosomia. Methods: We 251 pregnancies, divided into two groups: PP‐BMI < 25.0 kg/m 2 (the non‐overweight group; n = 125), ≥ overweight 126). A newborn Z‐score > 1.28...
Nutritional support is pivotal in patients submitted to hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. status has been associated with time of engraftment and infection rates. In order evaluate the association between nutritional parameters clinical outcomes after transplantation a cohort transplant was retrospectively evaluated. All 50 transplanted 2011 2014 were included. The before transplantation, ten days discharge assessed including anthropometry, body mass index, albumin, prealbumin total...
Aim The aim of the study was to assess contribution 111In-pentetreotide single-photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT/CT) imaging conventional somatostatin receptor scintigraphy (SRS) in terms lesion characterization and localization detection neuroendocrine tumours (NETs). Materials methods A total 107 patients with suspected or confirmed NET underwent SRS SPECT/CT after injection 148–222 MBq 111In-pentetreotide. images were interpreted independently. Each site...
Molecular testing contributes to improving the diagnosis of indeterminate thyroid nodules (ITNs). ThyroidPrint® is a ten-gene classifier aimed rule out malignancy in ITN. Post-validation studies are necessary determine real-world clinical benefit patients with A single-center, prospective, noninterventional utility study was performed, analyzing impact physicians' decisions for Demographics, nodule characteristics, benign call rates (BCRs), and surgical outcomes were measured....
Our objective was to evaluate the trend of antithyroglobulin antibodies (TgAb) during follow-up patients with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) treated without RAI, as well their role in risk recurrence. This a prospective, descriptive study. A total 152 consecutive DTC single institution undergoing thyroidectomy RAI and followed for median 2.3 years (0.5-10.3) were divided two groups: TgAb(-) (n = 111) TgAb(+) 41). Patients classified according AJCC 7th 8th editions, recurrence response...
Aldosterone has been linked with obesity, metabolic syndrome (MetS), pro-inflammatory, and prothrombotic states; however, most studies relate these indicators primary aldosteronism (PA), excluding non-PA patients. To determine whether aldosterone, renin, or the plasma aldosterone/renin ratio (ARR) are associated disorders inflammatory/vascular biomarkers in a population. We studied 275 patients including adolescents adults of both genders measured urinary aldosterone determined renin activity....
A patient with primary hyperparathyroidism underwent radio-guided surgery by means of a γ-probe and hand-held γ-camera. Before surgery, parathyroid double-phase planar scintigraphy an early SPECT/CT 99mTc-MIBI were performed suggested ectopic adenoma washout. The γ-camera was very useful for the localization adenoma, which could not be found probe probably due to its faint uptake high blood pool activity because it localized next great vessels. Besides, demonstrated complete extirpation tissue.
Latin American reports on pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas (PPGLs) are scarce. Recent studies demonstrate changes in clinical presentation management of these patients. Herein, we assessed the main characteristics PPGL patients our academic center over past 4 decades.Demographic, clinical, biochemical, perioperative data from 105 were retrospectively prospectively collected 1980-2019 period. Data organized into periods by decade.Age at diagnosis, gender, tumor size percentage...
ABSTRACT Background Incidental adrenocortical adenomas (IA) are common. Current guidelines suggest screening for primary aldosteronism (PA) only in cases of hypertension or hypokalemia. This study aimed to evaluate the spectrum from overt PA mild dysregulated aldosterone production with a sensitive protocol irrespective blood pressure (BP) and potassium patients IA. Methods 254 consecutive (excluding hypercortisolism) were evaluated. The was defined as suppressed renin plus following...
Azole resistance screening in
Hypoparathyroidism is characterized by chronic hypocalcemia with low or abnormal parathyroid hormone levels. Thyroid surgery remains a predominant cause of hypoparathyroidism, often preventable partial thyroidectomy. Although hypoparathyroidism can impair quality life (QOL), data remain limited for Latin America. We aimed to characterize clinical manifestations and QOL in patients postsurgical hypoparathyroidism.

Hyperthyroidism can induce elevation in several liver function tests including aminotransferases, alkaline phosphatases and, less frequently, serum bilirubin. These alterations are usually mild and asymptomatic. We report a 26 year-old male presenting with palpitations, progressive jaundice, choluria generalized itching. Laboratory were compatible hyperthyroidism of bilirubin, gamma glutamyl transpeptidase. A biopsy showed portal hepatitis canalicular cholestasis. The patient was treated...
We present a 19-year-old woman with neuroendocrine tumor of the appendix diagnosed during an acute appendicitis. An 111In-pentetreotide scan was performed to establish extension disease. Scintigraphy showed abnormal focal uptake in right side pelvis. The SPECT/CT images demonstrated round-shaped mass ovary. Pathology revealed benign cystic mature teratoma. In our case, hybrid imaging combining SPECT and CT contributed localize unusual accumulation within anatomical context.
This case highlights the significant contribution of SPECT/CT fusion to planar imaging in somatostatin analogs scintigraphy. We report a 44-year-old male patient with multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1, history pituitary macroadenoma treated surgery and radiotherapy, parathyroidectomy for parathyroid hyperplasia. To complete study this entity, 111In-pentetreotide scintigraphy was performed. In whole-body scintigraphy, no pathologic uptake occurred, whereas showed focus high pancreatic tail...
Incidentally discovered adrenal adenomas are common. Assessment for possible autonomous cortisol excess (ACS) is warranted all adenomas, given the association with increased cardiometabolic disease.
Warthin-like papillary thyroid cancer (WL-PTC) is an uncommon variant of PTC, usually associated with lymphocytic thyroiditis. Scarce evidence suggests that WL-PTC has similar clinical presentation to classic PTC (C-PTC), no studies comparing risks recurrence and response treatment between both variants. Our objective was describe the prognosis compare it C-PTC.Retrospective analysis a prospective cohort, including 370 (96%) patients C-PTC 17 (4%) WL-PTC, consecutively treated total...
