Influenza A viruses are major human and animal pathogens with huge economic societal impact from illness, hospitalizations, deaths. Virus-like particles (VLPs) of influenza virus have been suggested as a vaccine candidate offering improved safety efficacy. To develop this concept further, we established flexible platform to efficiently generate different subtypes mammalian-expressed VLPs. Here demonstrate that these mammalian VLPs strongly resemble the authentic in structure, particle size...

BackgroundPatients contracting influenza A(H7N9) infection often developed severe disease causing respiratory failure. Neuraminidase (NA) inhibitors (NAIs) are the primary option for treatment, but information on drug-resistance markers is limited.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) has raised a global alert since March 2003. After its causative agent, SARS-associated coronavirus (SARS-CoV), was confirmed, laboratory methods, including virus isolation, reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), and serologic have been quickly developed. In this study, we evaluated four tests ( neutralization test, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay [ELISA], immunofluorescent [IFA], immunochromatographic test [ICT]) for detecting...

Background: Bacterial resistance remains a significant challenge, necessitating the development of new antibacterial strategies. This study introduces rapidly synthesized L-histidine- Fe3O4 (L-His-Fe3O4) nanozyme with enhanced peroxidase (POD)-like activity, designed to improve efficacy and accelerate healing bacteria-infected wounds. Methods: We successfully L-His-Fe3O4 using an ultrafast, room-temperature synthesis method, observed its anti-infection effect explored mechanism through in...

Two rotavirus (RV) vaccines (Rotarix and RotaTeq) are available on the private market in Taiwan, but not recommended for routine use. We examined RV vaccine effectiveness (VE) against severe acute gastroenteritis (AGE) among Taiwanese infants to inform policymakers potential benefits of national introduction. From May 2009 April 2011, a case-control assessment VE AGE was conducted at 3 hospital-based surveillance sites Taiwan.
