COVID-19 can result in severe lung injury. It remained to be determined why diabetic individuals with uncontrolled glucose levels are more prone develop the form of COVID-19. The molecular mechanism underlying SARS-CoV-2 infection and what determines onset cytokine storm found patients unknown. Monocytes/macrophages most enriched immune cell types lungs appear have a central role pathogenicity disease. These cells adapt their metabolism upon become highly glycolytic, which facilitates...

Abstract Background The glucose-lowering independent effect of sodium glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) on arterial wall function has not yet been clarified. This study aims to assess whether SGLT2i treatment can attenuate endothelial dysfunction related type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) compared with equivalent therapy. Methods In a prospective, open-label, single-center, randomized clinical trial, 98 patients T2DM and carotid intima-media thickness above the 75th percentile were 1:1...

ABSTRACT Despite the early recognition that individuals living with obesity are more prone to develop adverse outcomes during COVID‐19, mechanisms underlying these conditions still unclear. During obesity, an accumulation of free fatty acids (FFAs) in circulation promotes low‐grade inflammation. Here, we show FFAs induce epigenetic reprogramming monocytes, exacerbating their inflammatory profile after SARS‐CoV‐2 infection, a mechanism named metabolic‐primed immunity. Monocytes from people or...

Therapeutic strategies that modulate ventricular remodeling can be useful after acute myocardial infarction (MI). In particular, statins may exert effects on molecular pathways involved in collagen metabolism. The aim of this study was to determine whether treatment with atorvastatin for 4 weeks would lead changes metabolism and a rat model MI.Male Wistar rats were used study. MI induced by ligation the left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD). Animals randomized into three groups,...

The inflammatory response has been implicated in the pathogenesis of left ventricular (LV) remodeling after myocardial infarction (MI). An anthraquinone compound with anti-inflammatory properties, diacerein inhibits synthesis and activity pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor interleukins 1 6. purpose this study was to investigate effects on vivo.Ligation anterior descending artery used induce MI an experimental rat model. Rats were divided into two groups: a control...

Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) improve endothelial dysfunction and reduce cardiovascular events in individuals with type diabetes (T2D). Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin 9 (PCSK9i) high-risk patients. Whether the addition of PCSK9i to SGLT2i treatment adds benefits is not known.

Evolocumab and empagliflozin yield a modest rise in plasma high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) through unknown mechanisms. This study aims to assess the effect of evolocumab plus vs. alone on HDL subspecies isolated from individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D). post hoc prespecified analysis EXCEED-BHS3 trial compared effects 16-week therapy (E) or combination (EE) lipid profile content T2D divided equally into two groups 55 patients. Both treatments modestly increased...

Background: Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) remain at increased cardiovascular residual risk and endothelial dysfunction, even after optimizing metabolic control treatment by sodium-glucose-2 transporter inhibitors (SGLT2-is). The present study was based on the hypothesis that proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin 9 inhibitor (PCSK9i) therapy may mitigate dysfunction in T2DM patients who are regular SGLT2-i. Methods: EXCEED-BHS3 is a prospective, single-center,...

Background Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is linked to high mortality, primarily through an intense inflammatory response. Diacerein has emerged as a potential therapy for COVID-19 due its impact in decreasing the inflammasome activation and replication. This study aims explore diacerein’s influence inhibiting both viral replication response after SARS-CoV-2 infection. Methods Human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were obtained from healthy volunteers...

Abstract Purpose Coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) has, to date, been diagnosed in over 130 million persons worldwide and is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Several variants of concern have emerged including those the United Kingdom, South Africa, Brazil. SARS-CoV-2 can cause a dysregulated inflammatory response known as cytokine storm, which progress rapidly distress (ARDS), multi-organ failure, death. Suppressing these elevations may be key improving...

Patients hospitalized with COVID-19 may develop a hyperinflammatory, dysregulated cytokine "storm" that rapidly progresses to acute respiratory distress syndrome, multiple organ dysfunction, and even death. Remote ischaemic conditioning (RIC) has elicited anti-inflammatory cytoprotective benefits by reducing cytokines following sepsis in animal studies. Therefore, we investigated whether RIC would mitigate the inflammatory cascade induced COVID-19.

A liberação oxLDL-Ab pelas B envolve resposta interleucina 5 Th2, [...]
