The term “officinal” derives from the Latin and includes all medicinal, aromatic perfume plant species, which have long been a subject of interest for multiple purposes: health, food, pharmacological, cosmetic so on. In this work, study on six different species medicinal plants, particularly characterized by digestive, choleretic diuretic properties, was carried out: rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis), sage (Salvia laurel (Laurus nobilis), gentian (Gentiana lutea), dandelion (Taraxacum...

Glycogenosis type II, or Pompe Disease, is a lysosomal storage disease caused by the deficiency of acid alpha-glucosidase (GAA), leading to glycogen accumulation in muscles. A recombinant human GAA (rhGAA, Myozyme®) currently used for enzyme replacement therapy. Despite its efficacy most patients, some them show diminished response treatment with rapidly progressive clinical deterioration, due immuno-mediated inactivation. To demonstrate that Nanoparticles (NPs) could be profitably exploited...

Periodic fever syndromes (PFS) are an emerging group of autoinflammatory disorders. Clinical overlap exists and multiple genetic analyses may be needed to assist diagnosis. We evaluated the diagnostic value a 5-gene sequencing panel (5GP) in patients with undiagnosed PFS. Simultaneous double strand Sanger MEFV, MVK, TNFRSF1A, NLRP3, NLRP12 genes was performed 42 unexplained features were correlated results. None analyzed displayed causative genotype. However, single or variants uncertain...

Introduction Human polyomaviruses (HPyVs) cause persistent/latent infections in a large fraction of the population. HPyV may severe diseases immunocompromised patients. Malawi polyomavirus (MWPyV) is 10th discovered human (HPyV 10). MWPyV was found stool samples healthy children. So far, few investigations carried out on 10 did not find an association with disease. Methods In this study, to verify putative between and diseases, seroprevalence investigated patients affected by i)...

In clinical practice, patients’ tissues are fixed and paraffin-embedded in order to enable histological diagnosis. Nowadays, those also used for molecular characterization. Formalin is the most fixative worldwide, Bouin’s solution some worldwide institutions. Among targets, micro RNAs (miRNAs), single-stranded non-coding comprised of 18 24 nucleotides, have been demonstrated be resistant fixation paraffin-embedding processes, with consequent possible application practice. present study,...

Cutaneous melanoma (CM) incidence is rising worldwide and the primary cause of death from skin disease in Western world. Personal risk factors linked to environmental ultraviolet radiation (UVR) are well-known etiological contributing its development. Nevertheless, UVR can contribute development CM different patterns varying degrees. The present study aimed at investigating whether altitude residence specific types and/or influence progression. Most tissues in clinical practice are formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded for histological as well molecular analyses. The reproducibility uniformity of analyses is strictly dependent on the quality biomolecules, which highly influenced by pre-analytical processes. Congenital disorder of glycosylation (CDG) type Ia is a multisystem that occurs due to mutations in the phosphomannomutase 2 (PMM2) gene, which encodes for an enzyme involved N‑glycosylation pathway. Mutated PMM2 leads reduced conversion mannose‑6‑P mannose‑1‑P, results low concentration levels guanosine 5'‑diphospho‑D‑mannose (GDP‑Man), nucleotide‑activated sugar essential construction protein oligosaccharide chains. Autoantibodies against type I interferon (IFN) are associated with a worse outcome in COVID-19. The measurement of cytokine-neutralizing autoantibodies has been limited, hindering understanding their role clinical practice. We showed that an easy and reliable assay can be reproduced validated to measure the neutralizing potency directed or II IFN. Identifying anti-cytokine might reflect on early treatments for subsequent infections, such as antivirals virus-neutralizing monoclonal antibodies.

Periodic fever is not uncommon in childhood and often ascribed to autoinflammatory conditions; however, it may be present also children with cancer. We here describe the case of a 3-year-old boy acute lymphoblastic leukemia who initially presented 4-month history recurrent, stereotyped episodes localized joint pain, separated by completely symptom-free intervals. These symptoms were interpreted as possible syndrome undifferentiated recurrent until more signs became apparent. Our report...
