The authors evaluated the effect on mammographic examinations of use synchrotron radiation to detect phase-perturbation effects, which are higher than absorption effects for soft tissue in energy range 15–25 keV. Detection was possible because high degree coherence sources. Synchrotron images were obtained a phantom and vitro breast specimens compared with conventional studies. On basis grades assigned by three reviewers, image quality former considerably higher, delivered dose fully compatible.

Phase contrast x-ray imaging is a powerful technique for the detection of low-contrast details in weakly absorbing objects. This method possible relevance field diagnostic radiology. In fact, within soft tissue does not give satisfactory results conventional absorption radiology, mammography being typical example. Nevertheless, up to now all applications phase technique, carried out on thin samples, have required radiation doses substantially higher than those delivered radiological...

Pre-symptomatic screening of genetic alterations might help identify subpopulations individuals that could enter into early access prevention programs. Since liquid biopsy is minimally invasive it can be used for longitudinal studies in healthy volunteers to monitor events progression from normal tissue pre-cancerous and cancerous condition. Yet, cell-free DNA (cfDNA) analysis comes with substantial challenges such as the lack large cohort addressing impact mutations or low abundance cfDNA...

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) are approved for treatment of recurrent or metastatic oropharyngeal head and neck squamous cell carcinoma in the first- second-line settings. However, only 15-20% patients benefit from this treatment, a feature increasingly ascribed to peculiar characteristics tumor immune microenvironment (TIME).

At the SYnchrotron Radiation for MEdical Physics (SYRMEP) beamline of Elettra Synchrotron Light Laboratory in Trieste (Italy), an extensive research program bio‐medical imaging has been developed since 1997. The core carried out by SYRMEP collaboration concerns use (SR) clinical mammography with aim improving diagnostic performance conventional technique. first protocol patients, started 2006 completed at end 2009 and data analysis is now progress.

In order combine high image quality and low delivered dose a number innovative elements are merged: CdTe single photon counting detector, state-of-the-art reconstruction phase retrieval algorithms. To facilitate an accurate exam optimization, Monte Carlo model was developed for calculation using GEANT4. this study, isotropic spatial resolution (120 μm)3 scans...

Background . Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) has been recently advocated as an effective technique for the treatment of symptomatic benign thyroid nodules. It is not known to what extent it may affect any subsequent surgery and/or histological diagnosis. Materials and Methods RFA was performed on 64 Thy2 nodules (benign nodules) 6 Thy3 (follicular lesions/follicular neoplasms). Tumor organoids are tridimensional cell culture systems that generated in vitro from surgically resected patients’ tumors. They can be propagated maintaining several features of the tumor origin, including cellular and genetic heterogeneity, thus representing a promising tool for precision cancer medicine. Here, we established patient-derived (PDOs) different breast subtypes (luminal A, luminal B, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-enriched, triple negative). The model showed...
