Abstract Objective To explore the association of antibodies directed against N ‐methyl‐ D ‐aspartate receptor subunit NR2 (anti‐NR2) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) with neuropsychiatric manifestations systemic lupus erythematosus (NPSLE). Methods Paired serum and CSF specimens were obtained from 56 patients NPSLE (38 diffuse psychiatric/neuropsychological syndromes [diffuse NPSLE] 18 neurologic or peripheral neuropathy [focal NPSLE]) 20 control noninflammatory diseases. IgG anti‐NR2 measured...
Cognitive impairment occurs in 40–90% of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), which is characterized by autoantibodies to nuclear antigens, especially DNA. We discovered that a subset anti-DNA antibodies, termed DNRAbs, cross reacts the N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) and enhances NMDAR signaling. In patients, DNRAb presence associates spatial memory impairment. mouse model, DNRAb-mediated brain pathology proceeds through an acute phase excitotoxic neuron loss, followed...
Abstract Introduction Although neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus (NPSLE) is one of the recalcitrant complications disease, its pathogenesis still remains unclear. Previous studies revealed that antibodies reactive with NMDA (N-methyl-D-aspartate) receptor NR2 (anti-NR2) are elevated in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) patients diffuse psychiatric/neuropsychological syndromes (diffuse NPSLE), which usually more than neurologic NPSLE (focal NPSLE). Two mechanisms have been implicated for...
Introduction Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) is frequently associated with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) as one of extra-articular manifestations. Many studies for Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) allelic association RA have been reported, but few validated in an subpopulation ILD. In this study, we investigated the HLA class II alleles ILD RA. Methods An study was conducted on HLA-DRB1, DQB1, and DPB1 450 Japanese patients that were or not diagnosed ILD, based findings computed tomography images...
We explored the relationship of antibodies to whole ribosomal P proteins (P0, P1, and P2) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) with diffuse psychiatric/neuropsychological syndromes systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). CSF samples were obtained from 71 SLE patients (52 [diffuse NP-SLE] 19 neurological or peripheral neuropathy [focal NP-SLE]) as well 24 non-inflammatory disease. Immunoglobulin G (IgG) C-terminal 22-amino acid synthetic peptide (anti-PC22) those purified bovine (anti-whole P) determined...
Objective IgG anti‐ DWEYS antibodies cross‐reactive with DNA and the N ‐methyl‐ d ‐aspartate receptor subunits GluN2A GluN2B are known to be associated neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus ( NPSLE ). have not been investigated in demyelinating or another disorder, neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder NMOSD ), which is a disease also found mainly young women aquaporin 4 AQP ‐4) myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein MOG ) antibodies. This study was undertaken investigate frequency of...
Abstract Objective Autoantibodies to ribosomal P proteins (anti‐P antibodies) are detected in 12–16% of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and have been found be associated some manifestations the disease, including psychosis hepatitis. Recent studies disclosed that anti‐P antibodies react activated T cells but not B cells, suggesting possible direct effects on immune regulation. The present study was designed explore presence epitope recognized by human peripheral blood...
The present study was carried out to elucidate the roles of serum autoantibodies in development blood-brain barrier (BBB) damages neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus (NPSLE).Paired and CSF samples were obtained from 101 SLE patients when they presented active manifestations (69 with diffuse psychiatric/neuropsychological syndromes [diffuse NPSLE] 32 neurologic or peripheral neuropathy [focal NPSLE]). IgG anti-NR2 subunit NMDA receptor (anti-NR2), anti-Sm, anti-ribosomal P...
Manifestations in neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus (NPSLE), especially active diffuse NPSLE syndromes, are some of the most difficult complications disease. For evaluation and diagnosis central nervous system manifestations, including NPSLE, MRI is a very useful tool to detect various abnormalities. However, relationship between brain findings clinical variables has not yet been clarified patients with NPSLE.The aim this study investigate pathogenesis by comparing parameters...
Objectives Demyelinating syndromes that result in brainstem and/or spinal cord lesions similar to those observed neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) as neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus (NPSLE) occasionally develop patients with SLE. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) interleukin (IL)-6 is a known biomarker for NMOSD; however, its application SLE unknown. Additionally, the breakdown of blood–brain barrier (BBB) integrity by autoantibodies another mechanism it not elucidated...
To evaluate the incidence and risk factors for malignancy in Japanese patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc).A cohort of 405 SSc who visited Kitasato University hospital between 1973 2008 was analyzed retrospectively until end 2009. The compared that general population, calculation standardized ratio (SIR) 95% confidence interval (CI).The represented 4,787 person-years total disease duration after diagnosis SSc. Of 27 malignancies clinically found, lung cancer (n=10, 37%), especially...
Objectives The central nervous system disorder in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), called neuropsychiatric (NPSLE), is one of the most severe phenotypes with various clinical symptoms, including mood disorder, psychosis and delirium as diffuse neuropsychological manifestations (dNPSLE). Although stress aggravating factors for its role pathogenesis dNPSLE remains to be elucidated. We aimed investigate effects on pathophysiology SLE using lupus-prone mice patients’ data. Methods Sleep...
Objective: To determine epitope reactivity of autoantibodies to N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor NR1 subunit and their association with neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus (NPSLE). Methods: Paired serum CSF specimens were obtained from 41 patients NPSLE (22 diffuse psychiatric/neuropsychological syndromes [diffuse NPSLE] 19 neurologic or polyneuropathy [focal NPSLE]), 21 various rheumatic diseases other than SLE (non-SLERD). Sera also 27 without manifestations (non-CNS SLE)....
Objective: The objective of this study is to explore the characteristics brain MRI abnormalities in acute confusional state (ACS) neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus (NPSLE). Methods: Thirty-six patients with ACS admitted our institutions from 1992 2015 were exhaustively enrolled. Their medical charts and scans reviewed. Objective Recent studies have demonstrated that autoantibodies directed against glucose-regulated protein 78 (GRP78) on endothelial cells promote blood–brain barrier (BBB) damages. The present study examined whether serum anti-GRP78 antibodies might be involved in the pathogenesis of neuropsychiatric SLE (NPSLE). Methods Serum samples were obtained from 129 patients with (58 diffuse psychiatric/neuropsychological syndromes NPSLE (diffuse NPSLE), 30 neurological (focal 21 lupus nephritis...
ABSTRACT We report a 60-year-old male with eosinophilic granulomatosis polyangiitis (EGPA) complicated atopic dermatitis (AD). The patient was initially treated prednisolone, cyclosporine A, and mepolizumab (MEPO). Due to worsening skin symptoms after prednisolone tapering, dupilumab (DUP) added as an adjunctive therapy for AD confirmed by biopsy. combination of MEPO DUP resulted in rapid improvement symptoms, suggesting it may be effective therapeutic option patients EGPA AD. This case...
We herein report a fatal case of Legionella pneumophila pneumonia in tocilizumab-treated rheumatoid arthritis patient who was state shock on admission but remained afebrile even during severe pneumonia. antigen detected the urine and neutrophil CD64 expression highly elevated. Despite undergoing intensive treatment, developed sepsis died 12 days after admission. An autopsy indicated that while infection had almost been controlled, subarachnoid hemorrhage ultimate cause death.
