Aedes aegypti larvae have developed tolerance to many insecticides used for mosquito control. Moringa oleifera seeds contain a water-soluble lectin (WSMoL) and this paper reports the effect of M. seed extracts (MoE(1-15)) WSMoL on development survival A. larvae. peptide from in-gel trypsin digestion is also described. MoE(1-15) showed hemagglutinating activity had similarity with flocculating proteins seeds. MoE(1) MoE(3) delayed larval which stopped in third instar (L3) MoE(6) MoE(15)....

Schinus terebinthifolius leaves are used for treating human diseases caused by micro-organisms. This work reports the isolation, characterization and antimicrobial activity of S. leaf lectin (SteLL).The isolation procedure involved protein extraction with 0.15 mol l(-1) NaCl, filtration through activated charcoal chromatography filtrate on a chitin column. SteLL is 14-kDa glycopeptide haemagglutinating that inhibited N-acetyl-glucosamine, not affected ions (Ca(2+) Mg(2+)) stable upon heating...

The pomegranate (Punica granatum) sarcotesta contains a chitin-binding lectin (PgTeL) with antibacterial activity against human pathogenic species. In this work, the structural stability of PgTeL was evaluated by fluorimetric analysis and for cytotoxicity to peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) antifungal Candida albicans krusei. folding impaired when incubated at pH≥6.0. On other hand, did not undergo unfolding even heated 100°C. (1, 10, 100μg/mL) cytotoxic PBMCs. Antifungal detected...

A novel lectin was isolated from Bothrops leucurus snake venom using a combination of affinity and gel filtration chromatographies. The (BlL) agglutinated glutaraldehyde-treated rabbit human erythrocytes with preference for erythrocytes. Galactose, raffinose, lactose, fetal bovine serum casein inhibited lectin-induced erythrocyte agglutination. BlL, molecular mass 30 kDa composed two subunits 15 kDa, showed dependence on calcium. BlL is an acidic protein highest activity over the pH range...

The increasing generation of agro-industrial waste and its improper disposal have raised significant environmental concerns, highlighting the urgent need for sustainable alternatives which would repurpose these materials. In this context, enzymes such as endoglucanase play a critical role in degrading lignin–cellulose biomass by catalyzing breakdown β-1,4-glycosidic bonds cellulose, thereby converting it into fermentable sugars with diverse industrial applications. This study aimed to...

Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) fruits are referred as a "superfood" due to its immense potential for health benefits. This work describes the isolation, characterization and antibacterial effects of P. sarcotesta lectin (PgTeL), 26-kDa chitin-binding protein with 37% homology chitinase from pomegranate seeds. PgTeL was bacteriostatic bactericide agent on Micrococcus luteus, Serratia marcescens Streptococcus mutans (MIC50: 1.25–50 µg/mL; MBC: 18.0–100 µg/mL) also inhibited growth Aeromonas...

Proteases are enzymes that hydrolyze peptide bonds present in proteins and peptides. They widely used for various industrial applications, such as the detergent, food, dairy industries. Cheese is one of most important products industry, coagulation stage crucial during cheese-making process. Enzymatic common technique utilized this purpose.
