The anti-inflammatory mechanisms of the sulfated polysaccharidic fraction obtained from red marine alga Gracilaria cornea (Gc-FI) were investigated using a paw edema model induced in rats by different inflammatory agents (carrageenan, dextran, serotonin, bradykinin, compound 48/80 or L-arginine). Gc-FI at doses 3, 9 27 mg/kg, subcutaneously - s.c., significantly inhibited rat carrageenan and as confirmed myeloperoxidase Evans’ blue assessments, respectively. (9 s.c.) histamine, L-arginine....

Prostaglandins are implicated in periodontal bone destruction. We investigated the effect of a non-selective cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibitor (indomethacin-IND) or type 2 COX (meloxicam-MLX) an experimental disease (EPD) model.Wistar rats were subjected to placement nylon thread ligature around maxillary molars and sacrificed after 7 days. Alveolar loss (ABL) was measured one quadrant as distance between cemento-enamel junction alveolar bone. The other processed for histopathologic analysis....

This work reports the effects of a sulfated polysaccharide (SP-Sf), isolated from seaweed Solieria filiformis and characterized by Fourier transformed infrared (FT-IR), on nociception inflammation. Male Swiss mice were pretreated with SP-Sf 30 min before receiving an injection 0.8% acetic acid, 1% formalin or prior to thermal stimulus. We observed that (1, 3 9 mg/kg) significantly reduced number writhes. also second phase test did not cause significant antinociceptive effect in hot plate...

Abstract: Seaweeds have attracted special interest as good sources of sulphated polysaccharides (SP) for use in pharmaceutical industries and biotechnology. In this study, we evaluated the effects SP from red seaweed Gracilaria cornea (Gc‐TSP) nociceptive inflammatory models. mice, Gc‐TSP (3, 9 or 27 mg/kg) significantly reduced responses, measured by number writhes, at all tested doses. a formalin test, licking time both phases test dose mg/kg. hot‐plate antinociceptive effect was observed...

Chlorpromazine (CPZ), a phenothiazine derivative, possesses anti‐inflammatory properties, inhibition of tumor neurosis factor‐α(TNF‐α) synthesis and bone resorption. TNF‐α promotes inflammatory changes resorption in periodontitis. We have studied the effect CPZ experimental Wistar rats were subjected to ligature placement around cervix right second upper molars. Alveolar loss was evaluated by sum distances between cusp tip alveolar along axis each molar root, which subtracted from...

We investigated structural features of polysaccharides from Ulva lactuca and their effects on the classical models nociception inflammation. Crude extract was obtained by enzymatic digestion isolated ion exchange chromatography DEAE-cellulose. The fraction with higher yield used in tests (SP-Ul). Swiss mice received SP-Ul (1, 3 or 9mg/kg; i.v.), 30min prior to injection 0.8%-acetic acid 1%-formalin a thermal stimulus. At same doses, tested Wistar rats paw edema elicited different irritants...

Abstract Cancer is a significant disease that poses major threat to human health. Image-guided cancer therapy refers series of medical procedures use imaging technology precisely locate and treat cancer. Combining the dual characteristics images functional nanomaterial (NM) drug carriers, various integrated diagnosis treatment probes have been developed for in vivo dynamic monitoring therapeutic effect evaluation drugs based on imaging. Copper (Cu)-based NMs emerged as valuable products...

Seaweed lectins have been widely investigated as anti-nociceptive and anti-inflammatory agents. This study analyzed the responses of a lectin from green seaweed Caulerpa cupressoides (CcL) on zymosan-induced arthritis rat temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Rats received i.v. CcL 30 min prior to injection zymosan (2 mg/art.) or 0.9% saline into left TMJ. Mechanical hyper-nociception was measured by electronic von Frey method at baseline 4 h after injection. Animals were euthanized 6 synovial...

Matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) are considered to be key initiators of collagen degradation, thus contributing bone resorption in inflammatory diseases. We determined whether subantimicrobial doses doxycycline (DX) (<=10 mg kg-1 day-1), a known MMP inhibitor, could inhibit an experimental periodontitis model. Thirty male Wistar rats (180-200 g) were subjected placement nylon thread ligature around the maxillary molars and sacrificed after 7 days. Alveolar loss (ABL) was measured...

Aims . To establish a new model of zymosan‐induced temporomandibular joint (TMJ) arthritis in the rat and to investigate role nitric oxide. Methods Inflammation was induced by an intra‐articular injection zymosan into left TMJ. Mechanical hypernociception, cell influx, vascular permeability, myeloperoxidase activity, nitrite levels, histological changes were measured TMJ lavages or tissues at selected time points. These parameters also evaluated after treatment with oxide synthase (NOS)...
