Abstract Background Chronic rhinosinusitis ( CRS ) can be classified into with nasal polyps w NP and without s ). displays more intense eosinophilic infiltration the presence of Th2 cytokines. Mucosal eosinophilia is associated severe symptoms often requires multiple surgeries because recurrence; however, even in ECRS ), clinical course variable. In this study, we wanted to set objective criteria for diagnosis refractory . Methods This was a retrospective study conducted by 15 institutions...

Peptide immunotherapy using multiple predominant allergen-specific T cell epitopes is a safe and promising strategy for the control of type I allergy. In this study, we developed transgenic rice plants expressing mouse dominant epitope peptides Cry j II allergens Japanese cedar pollen as fusion protein with soybean seed storage glycinin. Under glutelin GluB-1 promoter, was specifically expressed accumulated in seeds at level 0.5% total protein. Oral feeding to mice before systemic challenge...

Canalith repositioning procedure (CRP) has increasingly been utilized for the last 15 years treatment of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). We assess short- and long-term efficacy CRP on patients with BPPV.Nine hundred sixty-five (481 men 484 women, from 18 to 87 age) were enrolled in this prospective study during 1995-2010. Inclusion criteria a patient history compatible BPPV positive provocative maneuver (either Dix-Hallpike or Roll test). Reported duration symptoms at time their...

Background Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) often requires surgery, but recurrence even after surgery is common. Recurrence rates largely vary in literature and asthma seems to be a comorbid factor. Objective In this study, we aim estimate disease during long-term follow-up, together the investigation of possible predicting and/or influencing parameters. Methods Out 196 patients operated for CRSwNP between 01/2000 01/2006, 133 had follow-up at least 10 years could included....

The permeability of the round window membrane to Salmonella typhimurium derived endotoxin was examined using a total 17 chinchillas. One mg instilled into tympanic cavity via superior bulla. Endotoxin activity in middle ear effusions (MEEs), perilymph (both inoculated and non-inoculated side), sera determined by Limulus lysate assay after 12, 24, 48, 72, 120 h following instillation. detected on side 12 instillation persisted for 5 days during present measurement period. level peaked at...

• A quantitative analysis of immunocompetent cells in the middle ear mucosa mice was carried out by an indirect immunostaining method using various monoclonal antibodies. Mice bred germfree, specific pathogen-free, and conventional conditions were used to examine nonimmunized mucosa. Middle mucosae otitis media-induced also examined. In normal mucosa, mast substantial, followed Mac-1–positive lymphocytes. Even though IgA-, IgM-, Lyt-1–positive seen mice, IgM-positive only pathogen—free...

Abstract The lymphoid chemokines CCL19 and CCL21 are known to be crucial both for cell trafficking the structural organization of tissues such as nasopharynx-associated tissue (NALT). However, their role in allergic responses remains unclear, so our current study aims shed light on CCL19/CCL21 development rhinitis. After nasal challenge with OVA, OVA-sensitized plt (paucity lymph node T cells) mice, which deficient CCL19/CCL21, showed more severe symptoms than did identically treated...

Abstract IL-15, a pleiotropic cytokine, is involved in the inflammatory responses various infectious and autoimmune diseases. We have recently constructed IL-15-transgenic (Tg) mice, which an increased number of memory-type CD8+ T cells peripheral lymphoid tissues. In present study, we found that eosinophilia Th2-type cytokine production airway were severely attenuated OVA-sensitized IL-15-Tg mice following OVA inhalation. preferentially developed Tc1 mediated by after sensitization, vivo...

SUMMARY We studied the effects of secretory leucocyte protease inhibitor (SLPI) on production anti-inflammatory cytokines, IL-10 and TGF-β, by lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated macrophages, using half-sized SLPI (1/2 SLPI) containing C-terminal domain (Arg58-Ala107). ELISA testing macrophage culture fluids showed a temporary macrophages in early phase (24 h) after LPS stimulation at low (1 ng/ml) or high (10 μg/ml) concentrations. On other hand, TGF-β was initiated day 3 progressively...

A case of calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate (CPPD) arthropathy the temporomandibular joint, seen in a 54-year-old woman, is reported. The patient presented an eight-year history diffuse swelling with tenderness over right preauricular region. Surgical exploration joint disclosed calcified masses that were identified as CPPD crystalline materials by histologic and infrared spectrophotometric studies. occurrence very rare, this only fourth report such case, to our knowledge.
